The first of these truths, the one about water, only becomes a matter of thought right around the time that a catastrophic event has happened. News reports gasp at the sudden need for relief in communities in the U.S. as the scarcity brought on by hurricanes or other natural disasters leave residents r ..read more

In June of this year, we were thrilled to have our first vision trip of supporters in over two years head over to Kenya to visit some of our partners in the field. Hannah Umphress was among that group, and she was generous enough to share a little bit about her experience seeing them in action, getting a first-person look at why we do what we do. Listen and Learn What does it practically look like to be “whole life,” supporting the dignity and empowerment of not just life before birth but also the whole person until their last breath? This question has been one I have been wrestling wit ..read more

What is Sustainable Development? Proven Ways We and Our Partners Commit to It
Blood Water Blog
by Lauren Forrest

Often we think of sustainable development in reference to a non-profit or organization that has no reliance on outside funding or assistance of any kind. This mindset is not necessarily wrong, but the topic is much more nuanced than this. What exactly is sustainable development, and does it have a universal definition? Any organization you ask may define it differently depending on their mission and purpose; it can be seen as socially-constructed based on the context in which it is being used.  The concept became universally known after a 1987 Oxford University Press publication ti ..read more

COVID-19 interrupted the entire world, causing a lot of organizations to pivot services to schools and communities for the “new” needs at hand, and putting a hold on several aspects of WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene) efforts globally. That being said, handwashing facilities and hygiene information became all the more important in preventing the coronavirus, and issues associated with inadequate WASH facilities and practices did not cease to exist just because they were temporarily not the highest priority. As the world buckled down on trying to mitigate the effects of the pandemic ..read more
