Bathroom Design Trends for 2021

Ex.t Of all the rooms in the home the bathroom is traditionally perhaps the one least driven by trends. When we invest in a new bathroom we are often considering what we will need from the space for the next 10 years or so, perhaps even longer. A bathroom is not a cheap or easy space to refit so choosing a design that will have longevity is often at the forefront of the decision making process. This desire to ‘future proof’, is however increasingly competing with the urge to create a statement bathroom with a more individually designed look and people are starting to think beyond white. Using quartz surfaces in the kitchen

We've been busy getting our house ready to put on the market this week as we're planning to move in the new year. One of the things I'm most looking forward to in our new home is having a bigger kitchen. We designed our current kitchen really effectively when we originally installed it but we've always been short on space. Given the size constraints it actually works pretty well for us, but I rarely share it on Design Hunter because it's quite difficult to photograph. Although we've yet to find our new home I'm already thinking about what our next kitchen might look like. Often with kitchen d ..read more

It’s hardly an undertstatement to say it has been a tumultous year. After what felt like the longest winter, summer has finally arrived and we are all even more in need of a holiday than usual this year. When it comes to booking summer getaways Graham and I are usually a bit last minute about things, but after our holiday last year was cancelled due to lockdown we decided that this year we’d plan ahead and make sure we didn’t miss out. So when the details of The Meadows, a new property at Unique Homestays, landed in my inbox back last August it looked perfect and we decided to book it there a ..read more

Recently shortlisted as a finalist in the 2022 edition of New London Architecture’s Don’t Move, Improve! competition, Concrete Plinth House by DGN Studio is a Victorian end terrace in Hackney with a contemporary light filled extension grounded by a sunken concrete base. Embedding a series of concrete plinths into the ground to support an oak frame and steel structure, the architects have created a brutalist inspired living space at the rear of the house, removing the constraints of the typical Victorian layout by extending and opening up the ground floor. The house is connected to the outside ..read more

1960s style bungalows offer up a multitude of possibilities for renovators, and here at Design Hunter we’ve long harboured the idea of taking on this type of project ourselves one day. Frequently located on generously sized plots (a rarity here in the UK), and with the potential to create spacious open plan layouts, they have many of the features we are looking for in the post pandemic home. Renovated during the midst of the pandemic by Carlos Naude and Whitney Brown of design and interior company Working Holiday Studio, this 1960s ranch style bungalow located in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles h ..read more

After discovering contemporary rural architecture on our Scottish road trip and falling in love with a Cornish clifftop beach house, today I'm swooning over this stunning Scandinavian getaway. Located in Linköping, Sweden, the house was designed by architects Björn Förstberg and Mikael Ling. In contrast to the raw corrugated steel exterior the interiors are warm and light with an exposed timber structure and natural plywood and feature furnishings and accessories from Hem including designs by Max Lamb and Form Us With Love. Architecture by Förstberg Ling and photos by Markus Linderoth ..read more

A Parisian duplex apartment

Spotted over on Yellow Trace recently, this Parisian duplex apartment by Baptiste Richmann and Guillaume Gibert of RMGB . The kitchen and bathroom in particular caught my eye, but really there's so much to love about this apartment - from the rustic exposed ceiling beams, to the stylish joinery, that stunning brass cupboard and the perfect shade of grey they've used throughout. The gilt-framed portrait on the kitchen worktop is a nice touch too, mixing in a little old with the new. Images: RMGB ..read more

deVOL have teamed up with Sebastian Cox to create this beautiful modern rustic kitchen featuring sawn timbers, woven coppiced beech, solid oak worktops and a hint of copper. Utilising sustainable British timbers and combining modern innovation with traditional techniques the result is a carefully considered mix of classic and contemporary design. “The whole kitchen is designed to look like it breathes. We’ve created something that feels clean, simple and light but is brimming with subtle texture to keep the choice of material front of mind” — Sebastian Cox After my recent musings on staining ..read more

Hello, I hope you had a wonderful weekend. Yesterday I found time to enjoy putting my feet up on the sofa while cuddling the whippet and finally got round to reading Modern Country, the new interiors book by Caroline Clifton-Mogg that has been sitting on my coffee table for the past few weeks. Compiled with images drawn from the archive of French interiors magazines Côté Sud, Côté Est and Côté Ouest  it's a book that features homes exemplifing the very best in contemporary country style This interiors style is a particular favourite of mine, and I've tried to include elements of it in my ..read more
