You’ve seen it here on the site, and you may have seen it on my emails… I’m creating a diabetes course that goes over the DIABETES BASICS, and I’m not just talking about counting carbs & pre-bolusing 15 minutes….we get that spiel in our endo’s office and let me ask you – how well has that served you? Because if you’re like me, that little (and very VERY vague) piece of advice isn’t cutting it because you’re still seeing BG’s in the 200’s almost daily.
This course will go over:
Diabetes Basics (mastering the mealtime bolus, how & when to adjust your ratios, etc)
Diabetes Burnout

Happy Friday! We are in full blow Christmas mode over here. Despite the fact that we don’t have any snow, and it looks more like a foggy October day.
We went up north for part of Thanksgiving weekend and it was amazing; they had snow! We got our Christmas tree, took our family Christmas card photo, and of course, played in the snow. All 2″ of it……
We also built a chicken gate for one of our hens who’s been sitting on some eggs for almost 3 weeks now. The gate is so that we can separate her and her chicks from the rest of the flock until the flock doesn’t trample or pick on the babies. This is ..read more

If you have type one diabetes, you may be wondering what you can eat. The short answer is that you can eat anything—but some foods are better for you than others. In general, it’s a good idea to focus on eating whole foods that are minimally processed, with plenty of vegetables, fruits, protein, and healthy fats. And while there are no foods that are off-limits for people with diabetes, there are some that might give you a harder time than others. Here’s a closer look at the best and worst foods for people with type 1 diabetes.

Holy cow, how is it already almost Thanksgiving?!
If you’re anything like me, THIS is the time when you start your Christmas shopping.
For the past few years I’ve been really into gifting experiences, like massages, facials, trampoline park jump passes, etc. over material items.
Not saying I never gift physical/material items anymore, but I definitely have been leaning away from it. Which is why when I saw this graphic I immediately saved it.
This year Justin and I are each planning a date night as our Christmas gift to each other.
And for Miles we were thinking of continuing “The 4 Gift Rul ..read more

Meatloaf has gotten a bad rep for sure. Every time I make meatloaf I think, am I really making meatloaf? but then I quickly snap out of it because I remember how much I LOVE meatloaf. Especially this healthy meatloaf with HOMEMADE KETCHUP (this is easier than it sounds, trust me!).
Also, I didn’t realize how hard meatloaf was to photograph. Wowzers
What makes this Healthy Meatloaf, healthy?
It’s all in the sourcing baby! Let me explain…
The health of this recipe isn’t really in the ingredient list, as much as it’s in the sourcing of the ingredients.
Because when you look at the list it’s a ..read more

You know those things that take you FOREVER to try because you think it will be too time consuming, but then once you try it you’re like, WOAH THAT WAS SO EASY! WHY DIDN’T I TRY IT SOONER? Well, this Autoimmune Supportive Fire Cider is exactly that.
What Is Fire Cider & What is it Used For?
Fire cider is an herbal remedy that’s as old as they come.
The book, Fire Cider, gives a fun history of vinegar’s use in medicine. Here’s a short excerpt,
Vinegar residues have been found in ancient Egyptian urns dating back to 3000BC. In china the recorded use of vinegar traces back to ancient texts ..read more

Wowzers, what a busy week last week was! I know I usually keep these casual posts for Friday, but since Halloween was on Monday, I wanted to get this one out sooner in the week rather than later. So let’s dive right into Halloween!
Miles decided on Spider-Man as his halloween costume and totally acted the part. Super hero’s seem to be SUPER popular right now, so I wasn’t surprised when we saw over a dozen Spider-Man costumes and other Marvel characters.
Our town had a Halloween Celebration where they had SO MANY fun things for the kids to do. They had trunk-or-treating, a haunted story book w ..read more

Welp. It’s Friday. And I had high HIGH hopes of posting my autoimmune supportive fire cider recipe, but Wednesdays post (The Best Diabetes Books for Kids) took a lot longer than I thought! There were so many new books to add to the list!
But it’s on the docket for next week! I PROMISE! So keep your eyes peeled for that!
We have a very busy weekend ahead. I’m sure you do too. Filled with all things Halloween! We have a town Halloween celebration, a family birthday party, and trick-or-treating.
Miles still hasn’t decided what he’s going to be for Halloween. It’s a split between Spider-Man and ..read more

Happy Friday!
At work this week, my co-workers and I were talking about kid sports and how crazy the environment has gotten. From the early morning games, to driving all over the state for tournaments, to the intensity of some parents & coaches – screaming at their kid from the sideline to make a goal instead of just letting THEM play the game.
It reminded me of an excellent podcast I listened to over the summer from the 1,000 Hours Outside podcast called Resist the Urge to Overly Structure Childhood.
And I cannot talk about over structure / over teaching without quoting the wise Magda Ge ..read more
