Ever since inflation skyrocketed in 2022, mortgage rates have gone through the roof. From the beginning of 2022 to the end of the year, the average 30-year fixed-rate mortgage doubled. For anyone who sold their house or had to move during that time, that increase likely added hundreds of unnecessary dollars to their monthly payment in interest alone.  In the two years leading up to record-breaking inflation, homeowners were drunk on home equity. Many saw their property values go up by tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars – truly with no rhyme or reason behind it other than that’s ..read more

It’s always a good idea to regularly review with patients all of the supplements and vitamins they are taking, not just to be sure you catch any possible interactions but because many patients do not realize they are taking multiple varieties of many ingredients.  Once, I found a patient taking 4 different types of B vitamins, resulting in massive daily overdoses of many B vitamins, including B12.  However, only 2 of the supplements were “labeled” as a B vitamin.  All the others were INCLUDED in other supplements or named differently, like “stress tabs.”  One of the supplem ..read more

Ever had a dream? Not the one about missing something in a patients chart you had 4 nights ago… I am talking about a DREAM! Something that moves you… something that you want SO BAD that you feel like it is out of reach. It is just a fantasy… Something that would never happen. We all have dreams, be it professional, financial, personal, relationship, or you name it dreams! Who doesn’t dream of being a multi-millionaire nurse practitioner entrepreneur? Who doesn’t dream about that perfect marriage? Who doesn’t dream about that super expensive toy? The problem with dreams for most people though i ..read more

Finance Tip Friday #62: Is Paying Off Your Mortgage Early Still a Good Idea?

Becoming debt free is one of the most highly sought-after goals of any financial enthusiast and something I encourage everyone in the nurse practitioner community to do. The benefits are obvious – doesn’t it feel great to have everything paid off and not owe anything to anyone? While this is certainly a great goal, it may not always be the most practical … especially if market conditions have created a situation where your money could be better applied elsewhere. Since the Federal Reserve started raising the federal funds rate, lenders have doubled the interest rates they charge on nearly ever ..read more

LISTEN NOW! In this episode, we’ll be talking to Kaleena, a family nurse practitioner. Kaleeena owns a breastfeeding and lactation clinic that is doing fairly well. She’s needing assistance on how to take her practice to the next level as well as how to open a totally different clinic, a Men’s Health and HRT clinic. What we get out of this conversation is that you shouldn’t let one small thing stop you from starting a business. You only need to take the first step, and once you do it, everything else will come on its own, and very soon, you’ll have a fully operational business. Reminder:  ..read more

One of the most challenging medication changes for most of us is helping patients wean off their SSRIs.  Reducing by half doses is often too big of a change, resulting in worsening of symptoms and frustrations that impact patients’ willingness to keep decreasing doses.   The 2 things I use to help reduce SSRI or even SNRI doses:   Reduce tablet doses by “slivers,” not halves.   Start GABA, magnesium L-threonate, and L-theanine BID a couple weeks prior to reducing the first dose.  Reducing by slivers can definitely be challenging, but it really is effec ..read more

Big hello to my nurse practitioner sisters and brothers! Today’s article is brief but important. Ed Kuhn, who is a licensed agent with Wellness Medical Protection Group, was kind enough to write 5 points that you seriously need to understand and consider when purchasing malpractice insurance or renewing a policy. It is absolutely CRITICAL that you have malpractice coverage that covers you for what you are doing. I have written 2 articles about malpractice before HERE and HERE. If you have not read those, I would advise you do so. The last thing anyone needs is to be named in a claim and have m ..read more

Finance Tip Friday #61: The Most Unfair Advantage You Can Have for Building Wealth
The Elite Nurse Practitioner
by Support Elite NP
2w ago
What’s the one thing a person can do to build more wealth than anyone else? Believe it or not, it has nothing to do with developing Warren Buffet wizardry for picking stocks or coming up with a million-dollar Shark Tank-style business idea.  The answer is more straightforward than this. It’s time. Time is the most important asset a person can have when it comes to investing because of the compound interest effect. A person who knows absolutely nothing about the stock market can buy a simple stock market index fund like VOO, wait patiently as the market compounds along at an average of 10 ..read more
