I've had an old single shot 12 gauge "Mass. Arms Co." for many years. The past ten years or so I've been leery about firing it because the action opens up on firing. I found a barrel lock for it on *bay some time back and thought about rebuilding it for ground squirrel duty - something just to keep out in the shop and not have to worry all that much about having one of my firearms stolen. Finally ordered the part (still listed for sale after all of this time!) for about $20. Took it... Antique Mass. Arms single shot rebuild success ..read more

Spiegel/Kessler Bolt Action Shotgun Model 128

I found this old, rusted shotgun in an old garage. I know nothing about it and had only seen one other bolt action shotgun in my life. It was my uncles 16 Ga. JC Higgins. Anyway, the old gun cleaned up nice and the bore is fantastic. It has a fine trigger for a shotgun. The clip is gone, and I can get one for $56. There is no safety and the bottom of the slide that holds the clip in is straight. Nothing to hold the clip or to catch a finger on to release a clip. This one is marked Siegel... Last month I purchased a Savage 110 trail hunter 6.5 Creedmoor and I posted it here but now I can't find it to follow up. So I'll try again. I finally got a scope and muzzle brake for it and it finally quit raining here on the east coast long enough for me to make it to the range. Right out of the box this rifle is very accurate so far out to 300 yards. Next week I plan to try a couple of different loads. All of my shooting has been Sellier&Bellot 140 grain soft point (cheapest ammo) I... Purchased a new Savage 110 Trail Hunter ..read more

What do I do to replace the Lightfield 20 gauge sabot? Any suggestions?

A couple of years ago, Lightfield decided to stop producing the excellent sabot rifled slugs that performed so well. I'm at a loss to find any shells that can match their performance in my 20 gauge Mossberg fitted with a Hastings rifled barrel. I've tried many different brands of rifled slugs and they simply don't deliver the performance of the Lightfield. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what brand closely mirrors the Lightfield loads? I'm willing to spend time but I wonder if any... What do I do to replace the Lightfield 20 gauge sabot? Any suggestions ..read more

I took out my new Mossberg Retrograde 590 today to try it out For the first time. I had some 1oz target slugs to shoot. Notice that there’s no speed printed on that label. This barrel has a very low front bead sight. So my first couple of shots were very high using the front bead to sight. I knew about this issue and wasn’t surprised it was happening. (I have a taller front sight... My new rifle-shotgun ..read more

This is my last (not final) acquisition. It is marked 'Breda 1927' on the left receiver rail, so it isn't an Austrian product, but it seems to have the same feel. Serial number in the B 5000 range. Still chambered 6.35x54mm MS, I have not yet shot the arm. Yes it has been altered. The stock seems to be altered from the original. It is rather flowing, utile and attractive. One can see where the cleaning rod was located and the hole... Mannlicher Schoenauer ..read more
