Sustained mixed belts

So I’ve been trying to improve my mixed belt, especially on songs like Made of Stone and My Petersburg (musical theatre type singing) and although I can hit the notes with a nice resonance, when I sustain it for about 2 seconds my voice almost croaks? It also means I can’t add vibrato. The belt don’t hurt my throat tho and are comfortable so I wonder if it’s a technical thing or something I just need to keep doing till my voice gets used to it submitted by /u/AcedApple [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Can someone be a perfect lead singer but sucks at being a backup singer??

I'm in a choir of 4 people, including me (alt), and they (2 sopranos and 1 mezzo) have such a strong voice character. I chose to be an alto because I know how to blend my voice well with people, which is useful in choirs. In contrary, I've heard multiple times that my voice is very colorless on its own. Whenever we try to harmonize during rehearsals, it would sound messy to me and simply doesn't blend well. I'm a visual person and in my head I simply see it as a graph where all lines don't move along steady/parallel/evenly with each other, but instead each line moves differently. To me, it's ..read more

How can I make my head voice less shouty?

I’ve been working on bridging my chest and head voice so I can expand my range as a baritone. My goal is to be able to hit C5 with a nice “chesty” sound. However, at A4 and beyond in head voice, it becomes “shouty.” If I back off, though, it becomes closer to falsetto. If anyone could listen to my vocal sample and tell me how to get that range more pleasant to listen to, that would be wonderful! Any additional insights that aren’t being explicitly asked for here are also extremely welcome as well. https://voca.ro/1mV6EnqjFQL9 Edit: messed up octave notation (oops) submitted by /u/barlemnisca ..read more

Gig in 6 days - developing a cold

So next Saturday I have a gig and this morning I woke up with that weird feeling you have in your throat that might mean I’m gonna get sick. Makes me very nervous and I’m wondering if there’s anything I can do to beat it. Of course I’m going to get enough sleep, eat vegetables and fruits, take vitamines and drink loads of water. Is there anything else you can recommend? When I get sick I most of the time can still sing, but when I start feeling a bit better my throat often gets so dry that at some point my vocal chords just block and I can’t sing/talk a few sentences without stopping for a bi ..read more
