I look around my flat and I am overwhelmed with just how much 'STUFF" I have and I know that I have chosen to spend the next twelve months living in a small Motorhome and I have to start packing and deciding what I want to keep and what I want to discard. To be totally honest I would love to be able to pick it all up, put it in a skip and get rid of it all.
But as I begin to look through drawers and boxes I am transported back to good and bad times in my life. I read and reread the letters that were sent from solicitors when I went through a particularly acrimonious breakup ..read more

I am so excited, I have finally purchased my motorhome, but it was not easy making that final decision. I spent hours searching the internet and going to various motorhome dealers all over the place, to find the one I wanted. The problem being that I was not really sure what I wanted and there were so many different layouts. Invariably the one that I really liked was about ten grand outside my budget.
But when I went inside this little two birth tribute it just felt right! and I am so happy. I am currently trying to think of a name for her. It has a shower, toilet, sink, gas h ..read more

IT REALLY IS HAPPENING. I am Siobhan Daniels and it is just over a week since I retired from my job working for the BBC in both radio and television after nearly thirty years. It is so exciting to know that I am planning my next chapter in life without having to follow rota shifts or be restrained by rules and regulations. Having just hit the grand old age of sixty, I am getting rid of my flat and most of my belongings, and buying a motorhome to live in for the next year. I plan to travel through Scotland, Ireland, Wales and England. Meeting incredible people and learning about t ..read more

I just burst into tears as I looked out over the sea. I had dreamt of this moment for years and for one reason or another my life got in the way and I did not get to realise my dream until today. At the age of 62 I was finally on the Island of Barra in the Outer Hebrides. I was camped up in my motorhome on the edge of the Atlantic. Listening to the roar of the ocean and seeing the fluffy white clouds dotted around in the bright winter blue sky just added to the excitement of the moment.
I had arrived in the pitch dark the night before. I did not have a clue what would confront me when I opene ..read more

I drove onto the farm in Dorset and it was so nice to be back. I had spent five weeks volunteering in the spring and loved it so much. I was looking forward to catching up with Jan, the owner.
Being so excited about arriving I did not pay enough attention to the ground below me and when I pulled up on the grass I immediately got stuck. I tried everything to move the motorhome but it would not budge.
I have been so lucky because this is only the second time that I have found myself stuck in the grass since I set off nearly two and a half years ago. This time I knew not to panic because I knew ..read more

I was so excited to meet my sister-in-law Maggie off the train in Glasgow for the start of our girlie road trip in My motorhome 'Dora the Explora' around Western Scotland. We have known each other since we were eighteen and have had many holidays together throughout the years. It is great to still be doing them in our sixties as you are never too old for adventure.
First we got to explore Glasgow on a fabulous walking tour with walkingtoursin.com Our amazing guide Caron was so engaging and comical.
She told us so many interesting facts about the city. Including why two prominent statues have ..read more

This week I featured in the Sunday Telegraph Newspaper in an article about the retirement rebellion and it has generated a lot of interest in what I am doing. Which is travelling around Great Britain in a motorhome championing positive ageing and challenging ageist stereotypes. I have also got several invitations to speak about my experiences and my positive ageing campaign.
This is good news for me because when I started my adventures just under two years ago I was not totally sure how I would get my message across; that it is good to age and we should be doing it positively, retirement shou ..read more

Where are you going? What will you be doing? and who are you going to meet there? These were the questions my daughter was firing at me down the phone as I prepared for my next Motorhome adventure. I had found a site on Facebook that advertised work experiences in exchange for somewhere to park my motorhome and hook up to electric. I had replied to one where they wanted someone to work for three hours a day, five days a week, on a farm in Dorset. But that was pretty much all I knew. I did not really know where it was, or what I would be doing but I did know it made me feel excited and alive a ..read more

When I decided that I wanted to hit the road in my motorhome and travel around Great Britain nearly two years ago, the important thing for me was to send out a positive ageing message and to challenge ageist stereotypes. I am heartened that in the last two years, particularly throughout both lockdowns, I have seen a momentum growing of people advocating the proageing message.
We all age from the day we are born. We are privileged to be able to age, I have lost family members far too early in their lives and that makes me even more determined to embrace life and live every day to its fullest ..read more
