2022 year in review for Frontend Mentor
Frontend Mentor

I'm a little late writing a review of last year, but I'm excited to recap the major things we did and look forward to 2023! We've come a long way in the space of 12 months. This is the first full year that Mike and I have worked full-time on Frontend Mentor together. This has led to considerable improvements in the quality of our codebases and processes as Mike has had more time to give his input and shape how we work. Frontend Mentor is starting to look like a real company rather than a side project, which is fantastic to see! On that note, I have some extremely exciting news ..read more

Hello! I hope you’ve had a great time throughout August! We’ve had a productive month improving and cleaning up the code bases. It’s also been our best month for all the key metrics we track on the learning platform, including sign-ups, challenges started, submitted solutions, and posted comments! ? As usual, I’ll start this review by welcoming our new community members! We had 25,601 (?!) new members register on the platform, and nearly 10,000 joined our Slack community. I hope you all love being part of the Frontend Mentor community! Things have been a little slower than we would like on th ..read more

Frontend Mentor July 2022 review

Hello! I hope you’ve had a great month. Mine has been slightly patchy with a short break at the beginning of the month, after which I immediately came down with a nasty bout of tonsilitis, which knocked me out for a week. I then had a solid week of work before going on my first trip abroad since 2019, which I really enjoyed. We went to Morzine in France with my family, so spending time with my parents, brother, sister, and their families was great. I had lots of fun with my niece and nephews tobogganing down the mountains in the Alps! I’ll dive into it in more detail below, but we’ve spe ..read more

Hello! I hope you had a great month in June and are having an excellent start to July! We’ve had a very busy time (hence the late update this month! ?). We’ve been working hard to get the Hiring Platform ready for its soft launch. I’m delighted to say that we managed to get it launched at the end of June, and we’ve now got our first companies signed up on the platform! ? I’ll talk more about the Hiring Platform in a sec. Firstly, I want to welcome the 18,951 new members who registered on the site and the 7.5K+ people who joined our Slack community! ? I hope you all enjoy being part of the Fro ..read more

Frontend Mentor May 2022 review

Hello! I hope you’re having an excellent start to the month! This review is a little later than usual because I was away on a walking holiday with my partner and parents last week. We went to a beautiful part of England called Wiltshire, where there are lots of country walks and excellent pubs! Everything was looking extra nice as it was the run-up to the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, so there were decorations everywhere, and everyone was in an especially good mood. So I’ve caught up on everything I missed while away and am now settling down to the monthly review and everything else we’ve go ..read more

Frontend Mentor April 2022 review
Frontend Mentor

Hello! I hope you had an excellent April. In the UK, we’ve had quite a few bank holidays, which has meant work has been a little more stop-start than usual. However, relaxing and seeing family has been extremely fun and provided welcome opportunities to recharge a little. As we grow Frontend Mentor (and hopefully the team!), we always want to ensure everyone isn’t overworked and has plenty of time and opportunities to take breaks and pursue interests outside of work. So, even though it’s only Mike and myself working full-time on Frontend Mentor at the moment, we try to stay true to how we wan ..read more

Frontend Mentor March 2022 review

Happy 1st of the month! I hope you’ve had an excellent first quarter of 2022. We’re still working to build version one of the upcoming Hiring Platform. It’s taken a little longer than planned, which is usually the case with new products and features. But we’ve been focusing on reusability and scalability as much as possible, which is a decision that will hopefully help us move faster in the future. For example, we’ve now got a shared Styled Components library across both the learning and hiring platforms. This means that the hiring platform and any other tools (e.g. an admin app) we build in ..read more
