Hang on tight: this upcoming series of star lots tells a story about the state of Colombian coffee today. Three special coffees will light the way through the winter months as we ease into spring! We’ve worked with speciality pioneers Caravela in Colombia since 2010. This vertically integrated company does everything from running local cupping labs and technical teams in producing regions to importing the coffee to the UK. While we’ve both grown quite a bit since then, we’re still made up of individuals pursuing great quality in purchases large (i.e. Red Brick components La Magdalena and El Me ..read more

WHAT IS NEXT FOR YOUR NUT BUTTER JAR?
Square Mile Coffee
by Alex Cole
3M ago
You’ve finished your Peanut Butter and instead of simply binning your jar, we’ve got a few ideas to share on how to use it a little longer.  Great for travelling, if you’re on the move this summer, use it to carry and store your tea, sugar, raisins or overnight oats. Put together your favourite ingredients for a homemade BBQ rub. Use it as a cocktail shaker, a vinaigrette maker or fill it with bits and bobs lying around the house – buttons, coins, charging cables. The options are endless, and here are two of our favourites.  Make your own Terrarium: A great place to start on how to ..read more

Introducing Peanut Butter. A rich, sweet, gooey espresso that is everything we love about nut butters crammed into a limited edition espresso blend – 100% moreish, totally delicious and exactly how you want nuttiness to show up in your coffee: sweet, creamy and ridiculously tasty. SO, WHY NUTS?  Firstly, because it is delicious and fun. Also, because nuts and nutty are so commonly used as coffee descriptors, and, mostly, people really enjoy it when they are present. So we thought: nut butters are delicious, and coffees can be nutty – can we make something that is coffee’s best impression ..read more

Juliana has translated this passage from her book into English, detailing some of Helisson’s techniques. By Phyllis Johnson, Co-founder B.D. Imports and Founder the Coffee Coalition for Racial Equity. We’re excited to have worked with BD Imports to bring coffee from Serra das Cabeças to the UK for the first time. BD Imports’ work with Serra das Cabeças stems from founder Phyllis Johnson’s motivation to highlight the work of Black Brazilian producers.  Creating this partnership connects directly with her personal experience and activism on racial inequity. Phyllis was generous enough to share her story with this particular supply chain. You can learn more about her work through BD Imports an ..read more

THE EASTER BLEND 2023 The Easter Blend is a fun opportunity for us to play around with coffee by blending from the most caramel and chocolatey to the brightest, most fruity or candy-like coffees we can get our hands on. This year’s blend brings together Peru and Kenya, with El Romerillo from Cajamarca and Kainamui from Kirinyaga.  Bursting with flavour, El Romerillo comes to us from one of our single-producer selections in this year’s Peru offering, Roybel Jaramillo. His farm, El Romerillo, is named after a conifer shrub that grows in this part of Peru. This Caturra lot, the base note of ..read more

KILIMANJARO CASCARA TEA PROCESS 2022
Square Mile Coffee
by Jamie Isetts
1y ago
Last year, we focused on celebrating Aida Batlle’s Finca Kilimanjaro as the first farm to do a “process series” and the decade-long collaboration Square Mile has had with her. This modern classic was an early iteration of what is now a common theme in speciality coffee: featuring multiple processes from the same farm. This season, we wanted to explore the fact that Aida and Finca Kilimanjaro are still on the cutting edge of coffee processing. We asked Aida what processes she was most excited about, and she directed us to her experiments with adding cascara tea to the fermentation tank. Wh ..read more
