Following the announcement by the private parking industry that it is to introduce its own 'code of conduct', RAC head of policy Simon Williams said: “We’re flabbergasted that the BPA and IPC have suddenly announced plans to introduce their own ‘private parking code’ after doing all they can over the last five years to prevent the official Government Code created by an Act of Parliament coming into force.  “While there are clearly some positive elements to what the private parking industry is proposing, it conveniently avoids some of the biggest issues around caps on penalty charges and d ..read more

Teacakes/Marshmallows

Who doesn't just love a teacake, especially Tunnocks. Here's a great story about them, which Tigerfish would have loved:- When Royal Air Force pilots discovered chocolate-coated marshmallow teacakes expanded at high altitudes, they became “the subject of some rather unscientific in-flight experiments” in the 1950s. Air crews removed their silver foil packaging and perched them around the cabin for observation: The marshmallows swelled as pressure changed. Eventually, they became too big to eat in one bite. Many noted that, despite the extreme physical effects, the expansion didn’t comprom ..read more

Speed Limit 20mph In Wales

Reacting to the Welsh Government's reversion of its 20mph speed limit on certain local roads, RAC road safety spokesperson Rod Dennis said: “This decision will please a great many drivers in Wales, but it’s a shame so many roads that should have always remained at 30mph were unnecessarily converted to 20mph. “More public money now needs to be spent changing signs back at time when funds are already stretched. We are very supportive of 20mph limits being implemented in places where there’s a greater presence of pedestrians and cyclists as they are proven to reduce road casualties, but when us ..read more

The RAC attended nearly 8,000 (7,904) breakdowns in the first quarter of 2024 due to bad road surfaces, up 53% on the last three months of 2023, a clear sign that the UK is suffering a pothole epidemic as roads continue to crumble.  Analysis from the driving services company shows it’s been far from a smooth start to the year for the nation’s drivers, with pothole-related breakdown numbers up by 10% in the last 12 months from 1st April 2023 to 31st March 2024. In this period, the RAC went out to 27,205 breakdowns, 2,299 more than the 24,906 incidents it attended between 1st  ..read more

I’m off next week to a favourite site of mine for a weeks break. It’s the Batemans brewery campsite in Wainfleet near Skegness. It has 19 camping pitches all on grass that is kept meticulously near the river. It has a new toilet and shower block also kept extremely clean, you get a code to allow you access. The site fees have been increased this year but I think it is still good value for money. It’s £15 per night and includes electric hook up. If you are stopping on the campsite you qualify for a discount on a brewery tour and sampling session. A short ride to Skegness where there are Tesco a ..read more

Hi all. I’m new so be kind.  I have been Caravanning and Motorhoming for many years and would like your views as to what you think about the big two. The Camping and Caravan Club and the Caravan and Motorhome Club. I have in the past been a member of both but never at the same time. For the last few years I have been with the Caravan and Motorhome Club. The only reason for this is that when I was a member of the Caravan and Camping Club I found that their sites directory very difficult to work out prices etc. The site info was OK but the pricing structure was to say the least confusi ..read more
