Umbilical hernia considerations for breeding

Looking for advise from more advanced miniature poodle breeders than I am. I am looking to getting a show puppy (excellent pedigree, health tests, etc.) but yesterday breeder detected a small (pea size) umbilical hernia. I know that it does not impact on showing, life quality, etc., but would like to ask breeders about the impact on future litters. Provided she shows potential in the show ring, I'd plan to have a litter or two, with a view of improving the breed, and showing her... Umbilical hernia considerations for breeding ..read more

Good day everyone. I attach you 2 photos of my 9 months old male Apricot poodle. I have one question if anyone can explain. Before 1 week we got him for his first "big" groom. We was a little bit creamer color and now after the grooming his is more brown. BUT if you see the colour above his nose (between his nose and his face) it is white. Is this normal ..read more

Hello Everybody, I am looking to buy a red poodle form a reputable breeder, show lines for showing and subsequent breeding. I have been obsessed by deep red poodle colour for ~15 years, so its not a whim. In these 15 years I bought 2 red poodles, one of which turned apricot, and another - paper shopping bag colour, not really apricot, but not ed either. I am not a novice to genetics, but fail to complete clear picture of how best to mitigate future fading of beautiful red colour puppies... Pure red non fading colour ..read more

Hi, newbie to the world of pure bred dogs here with a question. I am currently looking for a toy poodle puppy here in the UK. One of the breeders I am interested in has their current litter listed as having a COI of 0. This has been phrased as "These puppies have 0% COI as both parents are not related." - the very low COI and phrasing struck me as strange so I looked into the kennel club registry for the parents. The father has a COI of 6.3 and the mother of only 0.5. The COI calculator... COI questions (EU rules, sussing out breeders ..read more

Kukla's Embark results

I purchased an Embark DNA test in November when the company was having a sale. I recently received Kukla's results. It was certainly no surprise that Kukla was found to be 100% small poodle (They don't seem to distinguish between miniature and toy, but rather lump both varieties together as "small poodle".) No health issues were detected except for being at increased risk for IVDD (Type 1). He has one copy of an FGF4 retrogene on chromosome 12. My biggest concern here is that Kukla does... My female Toy Poodle in heat got stuck with my mom’ s male Yorkie for five minutes (I wasn’t home my parents were but I guess they thought Lulu’s diaper was enough protection, I checked the cameras and they really were stuck for five minutes) so is it possible that she can get pregnant? I ask because after that he tried again 2 or 3 hours later and she growled at him. Oh before they got stuck together he was not going all psycho he was just trying to get her and she would sit with her butt... What should I expect from this situation ..read more

I posted this here because a client of mine ended up having a litter of Toy/Mini Poodles. I was against this but these are not my dogs. The sire was to be a Toy but grew up to be 14" he is under 1 year of age & has no health testing. He has the past 6 months had seizures. The first time he had 4 in one night. It has happened a few more times. Vet said it was not Epilepsy (their other dog has). After his last seizures he went back to the vet & the vet said these seizures are induced by...
