Ok you gear heads, give it to me straight. How bad is this? I live in Montana, so we don’t salt in general but some of our roads do get pre-treated for ice these days. About two years ago I had my engine and transmission rebuilt at a local shop Paid 7k in total After the rebuild the engine would shut off if I were to make any sudden stops after stepping on the gas to speed up just to slow down I mentioned it to the mechanic but apparently it wasn’t a big deal So now about two years and not even close to any significant miles put on the engine I was experiencing white smoke coming from the exhaust, the coolant had leaked to somewhere It definitely mixed in with the oil in the engine But I took it to the mechanic who I had rebuild it for him to tell me he did ..read more

A family member was about to let their third gen SR5 go to carvana, I asked if I could get it instead. Vehicle has under 100,000 miles, has been sitting most its life. Sticker says timing belt was replaced at 74K. It starts up perfect, idles with no stutter. When I reversed out the driveway and hit the brakes, RPMs dropped And I think it was skipping, it wasn't running quite right but never even came close to shutting off.
