I drove my 93 SR5 automatic to work the other day and it died on my break. I live in the mountains and it was a bad snow storm. I had to drive in 4 wheel high and with the roads being terrible I was only going about 25-35 mph the whole 14 miles. On my break I started it up (fired right up with no problems or hesitation) and tried to put it in Drive. The shifter wouldn't go into drive so I put it back in park. I noticed I still had it in 4wd so I shifted back into 2wd. I tried the shifter again and it wouldn't budge. Then my dash went dead. The rpm gauge dropped to zero but the truck was still ..read more

Does my new pitman arm look okay?

Hey guys. I have a question about my new pitman arm that hopefully someone can help me with. I have a 1991 Toyota pickup dlx 4x4. I recently bought a new steering box from Redhead Steering gear. I put on the new pitman arm that I got from LC. I torqued the big side that connects to the steering box to 130 foot pounds and tried to torqued the smaller side to 67 foot pounds but only made it to 50 foot pounds before it started to spew grease from the overflow nipple on the boot. My problem with the big side connected to the steering box is that the gap is much more than my old pitman and steeri ..read more

Dash gauges / blower not working

In what would otherwise be minor maintenance replacing a blown taillight bulb, I discovered that the bulbs were in fact fused to the sockets. I was able to remove the backup bulb and scrub the socket with steel wool, though forgot to disconnect the wiring harness beforehand. I think the truck may have been shifted to reverse at this time so a short occurred. The symptoms as they became clear with time: the buzzer does not stop when key in ACC, the cab blower fan doesn't work, rear and turn signal lights out (luckily brake lights still work), and all dash gauges not working. I checked all the f ..read more

22RE can’t idle when cold

I have had this weird issue the last few days where it will start up everytime, but when it’s cold (mornings) it will idle for about 5-10 seconds then die abruptly. Even with Fp to B+ jumpered, it still happens. I am somewhat familiar with the vaf-cor system, but this seems different. Once the truck is warmed up enough or during the day it starts fine and runs perfectly. Is this something to do with the cold start injector?? Not sure what to test/ how to proceed. Thanks ..read more

Quick question about the best way to loosen bulb / socket that has become fused by corrosion. After disconnecting and unmounting the taillight, I have thought of a baking soda / water solution, liquid wrench, soap, etc. Repeatedly applied with a brush then wiggling until loose after which a full treatment with steel wool, wire brush etc. What may be the best treatment for getting these loose ..read more

Horrible Gas Mileage on 1991 Toyota Pickup v6 3vze

I am getting 8 MPG on my 1991 Toyota Pickup V6 3vze Engine Automatic Transmission 4 x 4. Truck has 199,892 miles on it. I had the truck tuned up by my mechanic in 2019. They replaced spark plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor, and checked timing. After they tuned up the truck my gas mileage went from 10 mpg to 8 mpg. I took it back to them and told them my gas mileage went down after the tune up. They still did not fix it. I also replaced the O2 Sensor on it at that time. My problem is after reading all the posts here a lot of people have the same problem but I do not see any responses as to w ..read more

Hi I'm new to this forum, thanks for having me! (I hope I'm posting this in the right place): I just got my dream Toyota truck: 1992 Toyota Pickup..22re engine, manual transmission, 4x4, extended cab. 237,000 miles. Runs great with no symptoms or indications of anything other than greatness! I LOVE this truck! My question is about the timing chain replacement (if it's necessary), and approximate cost of a job like that these days..2024 (I'm out West in Tucson, AZ and I don't have a ton of money). My truck has 237,000 miles and the previous owner (son of the original owner), thinks it may ..read more
