The Boston Celtics took a complete 180-degree turn when entering the fourth quarter with a 16-point lead over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday night.
Coming fresh off a historic 140-88 blowout win against the Golden State Warriors on Sunday, the Celtics were in search of a 12th consecutive trip to the win column. And for the most part, Boston did everything possible to ensure that would happen. The C’s extended their lead to 22 points in the fourth quarter, however, amid an uncharacteristic, ice-cold shooting slump at the worst time, the Cavaliers countered and made it out with a 105 ..read more

The Cavaliers will have to play nearly the next two months without Tristan Thompson.
Thompson on Tuesday was suspended 25 games without pay for violating the NBA/NBPA anti-drug program, per ESPN. The 32-year-old tested positive for ibutamoren and SARM LGD-4033, which is used primarily to build muscle and increase strength.

Cleveland’s 116-107 defeat to the Celtics was one of just several losses the Cavaliers suffered on Thursday night on their way out of Boston.
While trailing the Celtics by double figures in the third quarter, Cavaliers All-Star guard Darius Garland underwent a costly injury. The 23-year-old, who stands at 6-foot-1, collided with Boston’s 7-foot-3 Kristaps Porzingis during a drive to the basket, prompting a trip to Cleveland’s locker room for a medical evaluation before returning.
Yet, despite finishing the night with 19 points, two rebounds and three assists, Garland still suffered a f ..read more

ONE BIG TAKEAWAY

BOSTON — Max Strus spent just a few months with the Boston Celtics in 2019 after going undrafted out of DePaul.
But before the Celtics waived Strus — a head-scratching decision in hindsight — the sharpshooter left an impression on Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla, who was in his first season as an assistant during Strus’ brief stint with Boston.
Strus showed Mazzulla that he could do more than knock down 3-pointers as Strus proved he was pretty good with a bat in his hands, too.
“We played softball at Fenway once. I’ve never seen a guy hit it as far as he did. Crushed it,” Mazzulla said ..read more

Grant Williams started a Twitter dispute with Donovan Mitchell on Thursday, and it did not end well for the former Boston Celtics forward.
The Cleveland Cavaliers star posted offseason photos of himself, and what caught fans’ attention was Mitchell’s use of a chest pad while bench pressing.
Perhaps Mitchell was using it to maintain his form or using it to prevent a shoulder injury, but it’s not a common sight for a highly-trained professional athlete.
“Chestpad brother … how old are we,” Williams tweeted with laughing crying emojis.

There were countless sources of frustration for Green Teamers watching Monday night as the Boston Celtics were dealt another devastating loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Grant Williams missing two free throws in a tie game with 0.8 seconds left in regulation might be the single-most haunting image, especially since Williams talked trash to Donovan Mitchell right before stepping to the line.
And the fact the Celtics blew a 14-point lead entering the fourth quarter, especially given that Monday was the third straight game they’ve blown a double-digit advantage, might be the biggest annoy ..read more

Cleveland Cavaliers star Donovan Mitchell wasn’t going to fully play the role of bystander even with the fate of the game out of his hands.
So, Mitchell turned toward playing some mental warfare with Boston Celtics forward Grant Williams at the free-throw line with 0.8 seconds left in regulation and having two chances to break a deadlock.
This strategy from Mitchell ended up paying off. Williams, who was caught on the NBC Sports Boston broadcast telling Mitchell he would hit both freebies, clanged the two attempts off the rim to send the contest into overtime, where the Cavaliers went ..read more

Boston Celtics forward Grant Williams had the game in his hands with 0.8 seconds left in regulation Monday night against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Williams went to the free-throw line getting ready for two tries to break a deadlock when Cavaliers star Donovan Mitchell paid Williams a visit. Mitchell obviously looked to get in Williams’ head and Williams could be seen on the NBC Sports Boston broadcast responding that he was going to make both free throws.
