Hello, I have been using 3/4" hollow core for years on sewers with no issue. I have always used a plastic inner core in my 3/8 cables for kitchen sinks and such. However, I am considering switching to no core on 3/8 cables and wondering if it is a bad idea or not? Have any if you guys used 3/8 no core cables before? And have you had any issues with no core vs inner core on 3/8 cable ..read more

Drain pipe clogging in winter.....

Here's my problem, I bought a country house in 2018 and in 2019 dug around the foundation to replace the drain tile to fix a wet basement, with success. I don't think the previous owner had issues with waste water draining properly to the septic tank as he had the cleanout wye open to accept the discharge hose from his sump pump. It's a 3" pipe with one toilet, a bath tub, sink and washer emptying into it. So in 2022, 3 years after my drain tile repair my toilet backed up....in February... Read more ..read more

Does pure lye / sodium hydroxide work as well as Thrift?

Just curious if the lye products at walmart that are 100% lye would work as well as the Thrift that I get at the plumbing supply store, or is there another ingredient in thrift that makes it work so good? that plumbing store is only open 8-5 M-F and it's kind of expensive. No place else sells Thrift here ..read more

Shower drain smell when water on

I have a classical elongated rectangular shower drain that is built into the floor (see the attached image) and it has bad eggy smell but only for the first few seconds after running the shower. Otherwise, there is no smell at all. There is water in the gulley trap so the sewage smell does not escape. I removed water from the trap to see if it is not dirty, but everything looked fine. It is only when i start the shower that the drain gives the eggy smell for the first few seconds. Any ideas... Read more ..read more

Toilet bubbling, tub backing up.

So I live on the first floor of a 3 story apartment. I had issues with my toilet bubbling and the tub backing up sewage whenever someone flushed upstairs. Last week they brought in Roto Rooter and snaked the tub to the street (and I think the toilet too. I believe they also did the unit next door as well, because we share the same plumbing or something). They said it was all good to go. But the next day, I had the shower running as I was cleaning the tub. The toilet started bubbling again... Read more ..read more

What manual 5/16" Inner Core drain cable would you recommend?

I have a rental house that I occasionally need to snake out. The drain lines are cast iron, and I have two areas that tend to be most challenging. The kitchen sink has a San Tee in the wall, rather than a Long-Turn Tee Wye. I tend to have difficulty making the 90° turn with my 1/4" snake. I also have difficulty getting around the trap for the washing machine drain. I have both drill mounted and manual options to use. I'm thinking a 5/16" inner core drain cable might be more durable and less... Read more ..read more

What is this in my sewer pipe

I removed a toilet and ran a camera in my sewer pipe. I could only snake the camera about 3' when I saw this object (2 photos attached). I have no idea what it is. I also ran the camera from my other toilet in an adjacent bathroom and again it stops at about 3' and I saw the same object. I never had any symptoms of a block sewer line. The only reason I was running the camera was to see if I had any crack pipes which would possibly be the cause of high moisture content in my concrete... Read more ..read more
