https://www.mormonstories.org/portfolio ... mormonism/ I've been listening to Mormon Stories since it started (though not quite as much in recent years). As relatable as many of the episodes have been, I think this one comes closest to matching my thought processes as I've gone through a faith transition. It's always been interesting to me to see that most people seem to stop questioning at a certain point. I've even heard people explicitly say that they had to stop, to continue functioning. This is understandable, but it didn't work for me. There are many points you can stop at, of course ..read more

Doctrinal Discussion • Work for Neanderthal Dead

The Family Proclamation talks about “All Humans - Male and Female…”, which would seem to imply Neanderthals are included as they are ancient humans…. Had there been any effort from the church to do work for the dead Neanderthals? I wonder if genetic companies like Ancestry could play a part in identifying out Neanderthal relatives so temple work can be performed? I wonder if we could perform proxy baptisms for certain chromosomes? Thoughts? Statistics: Posted by 2bizE — Thu May 02, 2024 4:02 pm — Replies 1 — Views 33 ..read more

In the latest round of lawsuits around the Tim Ballard mess, the lawsuit claims that Tim Ballard's staff psychic also was employed by M. Russel Ballard as his personal psychic. It will be interesting if they can present any actual evidence of this or if it is all just hearsay. Additionally, the amendments to the lawsuit claim that President Ballard used the same psychic as Tim Ballard — Janet Russon, who is also listed as a defendant — to advise him on how to proceed “in all aspects” of his life. “Some witnesses have claimed that Janet Russon was President Ballard’s personal psychic, and th ..read more

For those of us in mixed faith marriages-- How do you respond to your believing spouse especially when it comes to deciding whether to baptize your child as an unbeliever? I spoke with my bishop not too long ago about baptizing my son in a few months. My wife of course wants me to do so. She thinks if I didn't it would really hurt my son. My bishop wanted to know if I wanted to do so. I would kind of like to to make my wife and son happy but as a lover of truth, I think I would rather be true to my beliefs and not do it. Is it more important to follow the cult I mean crowd or to stand for my c ..read more

One thing that separates most of Christianity from Mormonism is what the view of what the ancients believed about God. A Christian believing in the Bible could say that early people knew something about God. But God left most of them free to imagine or conceive the incredible variety of ancient and folk religions that study of history and archeology reveals to us today. Christians would say that God revealed his will to the Israelites, and later more specifically and clearly through Jesus Christ. Bur most of humanity was left to develop what we see from today's perspective: early polytheism in ..read more

Yes as the title says it was a hard day in church. It seems as long as I have been doing this (pimo stuff) at times I still get triggered. I especially wanted to go today to hear my granddaughter talk about her mission in L.A. that ended March 29th. She gave a great talk by LDS standards but everything she talked about seemed so superficial to me. I love her dearly and didn't want to rain on her parade so I told her great talk !! Then onto priesthood where the two guys in the branch who know everything about everything (just ask them) took the over the lesson and went on and on and on about Su ..read more

There's an interesting interview on the Mormon.ish podcast, Episode 147 with Lars Nielson about his research into another possible inspiration or even origin for the Book of Mormon. Anybody else listen to this? Lars is the brother of the Ensign Peak whistleblower and actually wrote most of the document that was released to the press. From what I gather, his theory is that the basic story of the BoM began with John Smith, who was a principle founder of Dartmouth and the author of the religion lessons that were still being taught when Hyrum Smith attended (and which contain a lot of ideas that ..read more

A couple of priests showed up at our door today to bring my wife the sacrament. I was not home and I was not happy that the ward took it upon themselves to decide that she, without any sort of request or invitation, needed a worthy priesthood holder (pimply teenager) to compensate for my dereliction of duty or unworthiness or however they frame it. I am happy to bless the sacrament for my wife whenever she wants it. I tell her EVERYONE has the authority to do that, even her. I was unhappy not only because they are trying sneak one past me, but because the main reason Mrs. Hagoth does not att ..read more
