For the third time in the game’s history, Epic Games has released a new chapter of Fortnite. With this new chapter comes a new map, new weapons, new mechanics, and lots of graphic changes. When looking at all the changes, it becomes apparent that Fortnite Chapter 3 is essentially a new game entirely. Which begs the question, why doesn’t Epic release it as a new game? Since the beginning of at home gaming, companies have released sequels to games whenever they want to add new content. Think of series like Call of Duty, Halo, Super Mario, Fifa, Madden, and any other historically successful vide ..read more

What comes to mind when you think of the word Gamer? For many years the connotation of the word has conjured images of 15-30 year old men alone in their parents’ basement drinking Mountain Dew and eating Doritos. With the growth of the gaming industry this perception is quickly becoming a relic of the past.  Competitive gaming in particular is leading the charge to shift the mainstream paradigm of what gaming is, a legitimate form of competition, entertainment, and interaction. Many of the misconceptions about gaming and the people who play it are formed through inexperience by people dis ..read more

The pandemic forced everyone to go remote. Here at NOVOS even as the pandemic winds down, our team remains hybrid. A Common Misconception E-Sports vs Classic Sports. At the surface most casual viewers and people outside of the gaming community see these two as worlds apart. Sports are physical. Athletes lift weights, run sprints, and go through all kinds of grueling workouts to prepare for game-day. E-Sports are mental. Players have to understand the game, and use quick reactions to find success. While both of these statements are true, they are not complete.  Developing IQ/Gamesense Sports and E-Sports are incredibly similar, you just have to look a bit deeper. Firstly both activities require a stron ..read more

Introduction In late 2020 I was conducting a seminar about mental tools training in Esports for my graduate degree. The class consisted of people from the department of Sports and exercise science. Second, it exists in a world that has rules that limit what you can do and is too objective. Or simply saying “It’s something kids do.” All v ..read more

Introduction This post will cover the main aspects upon which NOVOS bases its training philosophy. We want to clarify why we believe NOVOS is a great way for players to work on their skills.
