Finally got myself a Wing! A 1990 SE with near mint bodywork. Been dreaming of owning one all my life. I would like to do a full restoration on it but the exhaust headers are a big question for me.
Anyone had experience with or know of a shop i could discuss building a new set of custom exhaust headers for my GL1500? Had no idea they were considered a "consumable" item, what a joke. Mine are about rusted out. I bought a parts bike and they're worse. I am hoping to have a set made from stainless or plated inside and out such that they should last many years. Maybe even clean up and chrome ..read more

83 Goldwing. I've ridden it ~200 kms this season so far. Winter maintenance was new plugs and fluid. It got a new air filter last year, so the intake tract hasn't been open in about 1,500 kms.
Rode fine last time I had it out. Started it last night, and it sounded like a box of hammers in a washing machine. It smoothed out, and idled and rode fine other than a slight miss at part throttle. Lots of power, no smoke, idled at 900 rpm, all as usual.
I pulled the plugs this morning, and found almost no gap on #3, and it definitely looks like it got hit by something. Ordered a borescope to see ..read more

84 gl1200 aspencade. LCD is dim, are there bulbs to replace?
What bulbs do I need for the turn signals?
21, 160lb, and I really have no problem riding this thing. It’s smooth and steady, easy to ride. Backing out is a challenge but can be avoided. She’s got 69k miles but runs smooth. Battery is new but stator going out. Brake and clutch master cylinders are both freshly rebuilt.
What else do I need to know?

1980 GL1100 Interstate. Runs perfectly and has less than 14,000 miles. I’m so happy with it.

I recently purchased this bike and I am loving it. While going through it I found a loose connector right between the forks. Can anyone tell me what it goes to?

Hi all.
I was wondering what your thoughts are on wearing a plain leather vest over a Tshirt (In UK) in summer?
I like the look and figure:- I have a windscreen for projectile protection I will ride my GW in dry weather only. It would be hot so tyres, road and bike would be warm and grippy. I dont hammer the GW I cruise so my thinking is that a lowside is less likely (and crash will probably involve impact).
I know they arent as safe, but comfort in the heat is part of safety. For the same reason I sometimes wear bright unarmoured snowboard trousers in winter because I think warmth/visibility ..read more

Somehow I got 52.5 MPG today. Apparently the sweet spot is the same at the 1500, 35-45 MPH.

My neighbor had this 84 Aspencade sitting around that he just wanted out of the way and was able to scoop it up for free. Carbs and forks were just serviced and the thing rides well.
I’m not really into the full fairing look and might build it into more of a scrambler style bike, but I’m still up in the air.
Coming from sport bikes and my sportster XR1200 this is a totally different animal.

Hi all, I'm looking at purchasing a Goldwing soon and wanted some perspective on specific model choices. Planning to spend $1500-2000 which seems like it will get me a pretty decent example of either model, so I have to make a choice. Does anyone care to describe some of the differences that can't necessarily be quantified like power and cargo space can, such as handling and overall feel? Or know any reasons to avoid one or the other? note: my previous bikes have been a Yamaha XS500 and an 84 Suzuki GSX550.
