We all have to deal with financial stress, but you might be surprised at how much more that stress affects people living with chronic illness.
What causes the most anxiety?
Did you answer "finances" to that question? You're not alone. Income instability is one of the leading sources of daily stress for those with chronic illness, and it's something they experience to a greater extent than many other Americans. This results in problems sleeping, feelings of isolation, increased depression and even higher rates of suicide among people with chronic illnesses than those without. Financial problems ..read more

With high debt, even good health may not be enough.
Let's admit it. We all want to be loved, successful and rich. We all hope that the third time is a charm. And no one wants to go through life feeling lonely, unsuccessful or poor. But are you willing to pay the price for health?

We can't control everything that happens to us, but we can control how we respond to things.
This is truer now more than ever with the rise in chronic illnesses worldwide. One in three people are expected to have a chronic illness at some point in their lives.

For me personally, it's been learning how to properly manage pain and keep myself as healthy as possible without draining my bank account or breaking myself even further (or both). Like most people who live ..read more

Many people living with chronic illness are surprised to learn that they're also dealing with debt - in some cases, lots of it. It's one thing to pay for medical costs, but when your unexpected health issues trigger financial insecurity and leave you unable to work, bills like credit cards can quickly pile up.
The good news is that there are ways out of the debt maze. The first step is understanding how exactly debt works - whether you owe money or someone owes you. Once you know what information creditors collect about you and how they use it, you'll be able to better manage your finances and ..read more

Last year, I believe I discussed my tragic relationship with money. But I didn't really get into how chronic illness affects your debt, and your money and how it affects you.
I'm all for a good financial fight, but it's hard to win when your body is betraying you every step of the way.
For those of you reading this who are not chronically ill, let me explain.
When your illness is flaring, it feels like everything hurts . You either don't feel like getting up and doing much at all; or the pain is so bad that you simply can't move much. It's hard for most people to remember how debilitating it ..read more
