Air-Dry clay. A great solution for creating without a kiln If you have seen posts about clay and have been envious but too overwhelmed with how, I am here to help. I think clay is one of the art foundations that every child should begin to play with. Yes, playdough is wonderful but does not use the same cognitive skills or is open to actually building, creating, and learning about gravity and creativity in the same regard. I have written this simple guideline in hopes of turning more mama’s, studio owners, or classrooms into watching the magic clay brings. Clay is wonderful for all ages, but ..read more

The Drive to Strive

How do you instill drive in a child? How do you create a path of self confidence and self awareness? How do you learn to love what you do? How do you learn the value of diversity? These questions can be answered through our teaching philosophies at Studio4Art (Studio 4 Art). Ultimately, our studio isn't about creating artists, its about creating leaders. I hope to use my own history and education to empower young people, gaining tools and learning styles that will allow them to accomplish their goals throughout life. These three remain my drive to strive. From left, Jenson, myself (Kebby), Ka ..read more

oil painting with grades 6-8. Why are we afraid to fail?  I have been contemplating this idea for a long time.  I think my pondering is initiated by the kids creating at Studio4Art and ask, "You can't fail in art, right?"   Many, if not all art teachers share this wisdom with their students.  When students are told this, it is usually in the form of whatever you made is fine because there is "no failure in art", or it is used to alleviate fear of getting started with the project.  I believe that the essence of what they are saying is there, but the true value and full ..read more

I rarely show my face on any online forum, trying my best to change this. Sometimes it is my insecurities, sometimes it is my shyness, sometimes it is my need for anonymity, sometimes it is because I want this business to be amazing without me. However, I also know I enjoy getting to know the face behind businesses! So….My name is Kebby (yes real name, no not short for anything, I think my mom intended for me to be outspoken and creative from the start, why else would you decide to make up a name derived from your father’s initials? ? okay, sorry back to the business) and I started teaching ..read more

Our official week of vacation, which usually means cleaning, scheduling, and thinking about what is next. Teacher Jenson, my oldest, and Kyla, my baby girl and pictured above, are off to Kauai with a group of amazing friends. Kaden, the youngest of the family squad, has just started high school so I am staying close for any emotional needs that may arise. After 4 years of homeschool and previous years at a very small (like 9 kids to a class) private school this new adventure is big, exciting, and leads to a lot of conversations on social dynamics, class expectations, and personal goals. I was recently asked about our story. We have been around so long I forget some don’t know the path it took to get us to the place we are now. Our path was not straight and it was exactly what we needed for me to offer the diverse programs we have. Truth be told the “us”, “we”, “our”, should really read “me”, “I”, and “my” but I have always felt it took the support of my family to really have this studio what it is today. Over the next few weeks I will tell my story of who, what, where, when, how, and why. I do hope it inspires you if you are feeling there is something else out there to apply ..read more

COVID-19. When you first hear this as a small business you are scared, crushed, uncertain, and probably shut down because it is just too overwhelming to think of running a brick-n-mortar when you can’t legally have people walk through your doors. You go between raising your hands up and saying it is out of your control to spinning, freaking out, and saying we have to rise above, but how? Well 5 weeks later and here I am. Redesigning, problem-solving, reinventing, and basically pivoting what I knew as truth to a new frontier of what truth is for me and my business today. I have sat in thi ..read more
