It happened twice to me today. 2002 Explorer Sport Trac 4.0L 5R55E First time pulled up to wait in line for the ferry, vehicle running put in park. Slight incline, had foot on brake. When line started moving I thought I was in gear, took foot off brake and it rolled forward until parking pawl stopped the truck. Put foot on brake tried to shift into drive and the shifter would not move from park. Tried pulling it towards me and down thinking weight of vehicle was on parking pawl, no... 2002 Sport Trac Column Shifter Stuck ..read more

"Dose" the ultra cheap offroad race Explorer turned rock crawler

So I have always wanted to build an Explorer to race, Baja style, and with that goal in mind I have been saving parts since I got into RBVs in 2008. It seems like such a good platform to build off of - throw some D44 knuckles out on the D35, redo the 8.8 for 5x5.5 bolt pattern, ditch the interior and glass, cage it, more shocks, and make it fly! I finally found the perfect one to build, it was cheap ($220,) blue, absolute junk body, but it runs really well! Cut the cats off, scrap value... Howdy folks, I have an '03ish Mazda B3000 3.0 V6, Std Cab, Std Bed, 2WD I'm looking to do some work on. Planning a trip to the junkyard soon, and to my amazement they actually do have 2 Sport Trac Explorers, and one standard Explorer. Here's the details on them: 2004 Explorer Sport Trac, 4WD, 4.0 V6 XLS. It actually looks pretty clean, it's been on the pick and pull lot for 3 months now however so it's probably not entirely complete. [ATTACH type="full"... Vehicle shaking

Just put a new fuel tank and fuel pump in the 98 awd explorer when I turn the steering wheel at slow speeds and stopped the whole vehicle shakes. The power steering reservoir is full and has no bubbles. If feels like a low power steering fluid shutter. I was thinking either rack and pinion was going bad or ball joints or tie rod ends what do you guys think? It did sit for about a week and a half on those parking ramps waiting for the new tank to come ..read more

I know the compatibility of models for my 91 Ranger, but I'm now looking for models of Rangers, Explorers, and Explorer Sports are compatible with my 2002 Explorer Sport Trac. I'm looking more at cosmetic body items for the exterior and interior. I want to be able to breakdown the model years for interior and exterior parts when I go the junkyards. Thank you in advance ..read more

Transmission overdrive issues.

Hey everyone and Merry Christmas. This post is about a 2005 Ford Ranger 3.0 but since I tried the Ranger forum and nobody had encountered this issue before it was suggested that I try the Explorer forum because it has a similar transmission. The transmission is the 5R44E. The transmission shifts smoothly in all gear. The issue starts when I try to accelerate while it is in overdrive (as in trying to pass or get on the interstate) the transmission jutters almost sounding like it's trying to... Well as it begins, there are a few items that need to be addressed for my Sport Trac. Don't actually have time until this Friday to start troubleshooting but I've been looking / researching the items. So the first big issue is the 4WD operation. The "4x4" and "4L0" lights on the dash do not come on when the truck is started for the bulb check. I went to the tech section... DVDSWAN 02 Sport Trac Build/Maintenance thread ..read more

1999 Expo O2 Questions

I just got a '99 V8 AWD explorer to donate it's drivetrain to my '03 ranger with a locked up 4.0. Anyway after I started digging into it... It's not bad. Rusty but not bad. It was a theft recovery so I sent the ECM out for a PATS delete (key switch is buggered & no keys) then threw a fuel pump at it and it fired right up. Only a leak in the high pressure power steering hose is keeping me from actually driving it more than 10 minutes. Anyway as part of the theft the they cut the cats out... 1999 Expo O2 Questions ..read more

Left rear brake line leak

Just need some advice here. This is an 02 Explorer Sport Trac 4x4, 4.0L. Front disc, rear drum. The left rear flexible brake line goes from the top of the diff over to a bracket at the top of the frame rail. It connects to another solid brake line that is steel or metal of some sort and is black-coated with something. I have similar lines in the front brakes. Regardless, I have a leak in the black coated line right where it attaches to the fitting on the flexible brake line. Is it... Left rear brake line leak ..read more
