A man (32), who did not have a valid driving licence and allegedly drove under the influence of alcohol or narcotic drugs, caused an accident after driving recklessly and negligently at Okandiikalela-Omangolowani village on Saturday, said police spokesperson Elifas Kuwinga in the weekend crime report. The National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia (Namcor) has announced that United States oil major Chevron Namibia Exploration Limited (CNEL) will take over an 80% stake in petroleum exploration licence 82 (PEL 82) in the Walvis Basin, offshore Namibia. As part of the arrangement, Namcor and Custos Energy will each retain a 10% carried interest. The man convicted of murdering the two top executives of the Namibian Institute of Mining and Technology (Nimt) in April 2019 was sentenced to two terms of life imprisonment on Monday. Judge Christie Liebenberg sentenced Ernst Lichtenstrasser in the Windhoek High Court, where Lichtenstrasser was found guilty on two counts of murder and six further charges in November last year. Two friends were walking from a petrol station in Windhoek on Saturday when a man allegedly pulled out an axe and demanded cellphones from them, said police spokesperson Elifas Kuwinga in the weekend crime report. The man was wearing a security guard uniform. He robbed one complainant of an iPhone valued at N$10 000, while the other person managed to run away, said Kuwinga. According to Kuwinga, no recovery or arrest has been made yet, the suspect is unknown and police investigations are ongoing.
