Some jobs I could do with 4+ different machines. I try not to have a strong opinion about it, use whichever fits the job best, or, whichever is free, or in the past whichever the boss says to use ..read more

Usually load based, but octane, compression, cam timing, full advance timing, altitude, chamber shape, chamber surface finish, cylinder pressure, deck height, etc.. can all have an effect. I have found deck height makes a huge difference. If its loose, it will want to detonate much easier, even at the same compression, compared to a nice tight .040" deck. The cam timing/compression ratio is also ..read more

Remember, the W100 is ground 3-4 degrees advanced. That helps with keeping things in motion. Also, the P heads have relatively small ports. I gather that you have the Magnaspark already. Or, you can source a 6 V 109 tooth 200 mm flywheel. They are out there. The limit will be the displacement/compression. The 6 V starter will only handle so much. A 90 hp lower compression 1914 will be better than a 90 hp high compression 1776, - for the starter ..read more

The issue with one barrel not pulling the same as the others is a known issue, especially with the universal Webers, because the return spring is in the wrong end of the carb on one side. So the shafts twist easy. If it is only ½ kg/min or so I wouldnt bother. If it is more you need to twist the shaft back in place. Your idle is not bad. I have seen worse You are correct, it could be a hair better, but that take time and effort. WRT ign ..read more

After getting the motor properly warm (300-350° at spark plug) after cruising on backroads or HWY I cannot go over 4k RPM, it's like a switch turns on and rattle rattle rattle. I have a 1.7 T4 (see sig for details) in my Squareback.
