Rough idle, 1.6 16v. EGR?

Car: golf 1.6 16v (BCB). Car has been running very rough sometimes on and off, and 3 days ago it started getting really bad. I got 2 fault codes, one p1314 on the abs and 1553 on the ECM, and my epc light comes on (no CEL). If unplug the sensor on the egr, both of these codes and epc dissapear and car starts running smooth again. If i plug it in, the revs start bouncing. Could this be something else or would you say my egr is kaput? Are there any other testing procedures i can do? Thanks... Rough idle, 1.6 16v. EGR ..read more

Bora 1.6 16v servo vacuum hose

I've been suffering some missfires recently, and it seems due to the servo vacuum pipe\hose being cracked. I'm surprised I'd not noticed sooner, but it's cracked at every union; at the servo and both sides of the non return valve. I taped it up just to get home, but it can't stay like that. Question is, where's best to get a replacement? I need both the non return valve bit and the long pipe that goes across the bulkhead. I had a look online with little success, so was thinking I'd check... bora 1.6 16v servo vacuum hose ..read more

Squishy / spongy brake pedal

Hi all new here. Bought my 2000 (X reg) mk4 1.8t AGU about 9 months ago. It had been sat for ~ 1 year and always had a squishy pedal since I drove it. Wasn't that bad but I wanted to do something about it down the line. Rear brakes started griding 2 weeks ago so I've done my rear pads and rotors. Both rear calipers were siezed so I bought a new pair and fitted them, dropped a tonne of fluid in the process so it had to be bled. All back together now and I've bled all brakes 4 times - engine... Hello. I have had the car about 3 months and it drives ok, plenty of power. It starts ok, slightly hesitant on very cold start up which means you hold the key in start a fraction longer, no big issue, that could be battery. Once it fires its steady enough, revs fine and the rpm needle is glued steady. Its the smell of the exhaust that is driving me crazy!!! I understand that diesels smell noticably different to petrol; Lets say engine was running and you was messing with the boot you should... Hi, I've noticed over the last couple of weeks that the passenger side rear break light on my mk4 golf occasionally stops working. It's weird because when I bang it a few time it switches back on again so i don't think the bulb is going. Any ideas what this could be please? Thanks ..read more

Anyone within 20 miles of Worthing got a front wheel hub?

'Every 30-minute job is one snapped bolt away from a weekend of trauma' Yeah - front wheel bearing, pressed out the hub and the bearing disintegrated. I've pressed the new bearing in to the carrier, but can't get the remains off of the old hub. It's more knackered than an old knacker's knackers. I've ordered one from eurocarparts but that won't get delivered til Monday, and I could really do with it yesterday. Long shot, I know ..read more
