The aim of this article is to re-score an all-around program that was optimised for the 2022-2024 CoP, under the new 2025-2028 CoP, to determine how much an all-around program may expect to lose in difficulty and how skill performance will be affected. For each routine, the relevant changes to the CoP that affect the ..read more

Going into the Paris Olympics, one of the biggest stories in men’s gymnastics is the rivalry between Hashimoto Daiki of Japan and Zhang Boheng of China. Daiki comes to Paris as the defending champion from Tokyo, where he became the youngest man in history to win the all around title. Meanwhile, Paris will be Boheng’s first Olympics, after having been left at home during Tokyo due to internal politics- something that he quickly demonstrated was a bad decision when he became the 2021 World AA Champion, and he remains the only person to defeat Daiki in an international AA final. The result was re ..read more

Following China’s internal Olympic trials- which we have absolutely zero scores or information about- China have announced their Olympic team:
Zou Jingyuan
Zhang Boheng
Liu Yang
Xiao Ruoteng
Sun Wei
Reserves are Shi Cong, Lan Xingyu, Su Weide and You Hao.
After Nationals, the first four of these gymnasts pretty much had their spots secured. Zou Jingyuan had already officially secured his spot by the selection criteria, while Liu Yang‘s rings dominance combined with China’s prioritisation of retaining the Olympic rings title meant his spot was never really in question, despite making the team ..read more

Great Britain have announced their Olympic Team. It is:
Joe Fraser
Jake Jarman
Harry Hepworth
Max Whitlock
Luke Whitehouse
Reserves- James Hall, Courtney Tulloch
The first four gymnasts on this list were fairly obvious. Joe Fraser has returned fantastically after missing 2023 recovering from surgery. He won both the 2024 English and British AA titles with 84.5+ scores, and although he had a difficult time at the European Championships he is solidly their strongest AA gymnast, and capable of putting up solid scores on every event. Jake Jarman is the second AAer on the team, placing second at ..read more

Japan’s Olympic team selection process began at the All Japan Championships on the 11th-14th of April (full results here), and concludes this week at the NHK Trophy on the 16th-19th May. Their team selection is known for being the most rigid in the world- it’s all formulaic, with no room for subjectivity, and is only made more brutal by the incredible depth of talent in Japan. 45 gymnasts scored 80+ on day 1 of competition, and across both days 9 different gymnasts scored 85+. To put this into context, the silver medal winning score at the 2023 World Championships was 84.998.
