Many local newspapers had online personals in the mid 1990s but were bought out by these big dating sites. From some of the comments it really shows how desperate dating sites are for money that they even advertise in comment sections. You have a much better chance going to local events and you will probably spend less than what you would spend on an online dating site. Other apps have indicated that they might actually move closer to Facebook. For example, Bumble, founded by a former Tinder executive, said they had already reached out to Facebook regarding how to collaborate. And, “One thing ..read more

Fresh Apple Mousse

This fresh apple mousse is light, crisp, and refreshing. The chunks of apple add a nice texture, and the lack of spices lets the apple flavor really shine. So here’s a confession, I don’t really like the fall pumpkin spice craze. And while I LIKE cinnamon with apple, I often prefer plain ol apple. Spices are good and definitely have their place (I use them all the time, duh), but they can sometimes overpower the natural flavor of whatever they are added to. When you think of mousse, you probably think of vanilla, chocolate, or maybe lemon. I bet you’ve never had apple mousse before! And FRES ..read more

Baby seals are the cutest, and this cute marshmallow version is SO kawaii! Using just a few ingredients, you can create these squishy cute baby seal pipeable marshmallow figures at home!  A while back, I saw some baby seal mochi videos floating around Facebook, and I thought, WOW those marshmallow animals are so cute! But, of course, they were at a store in not-Kansas (actually, it was somewhere in Asia, pretty sure), so I had to give up on the idea. BUT, what if I recreated it myself? I started to think about baby seal mochis, and then I started thinking…. Okay, what else is white, squi ..read more

Japanese carrot salad: Carrots and corn come together with a sesame mayo dressing to make a delicious, tangy carrot and sesame salad. The dressing is customizable to your tastes, and is delicious on salads and great for dipping.  The best dressings are sesame dressings. It’s just a fact. Roasted sesame seeds add the perfect flavor to… well, anything. I have a healthy sesame dressing that is made with veggies in it, that I love, and this time I wanted to share a sesame mayo dressing. When I say mayo, I mean Japanese mayo. Okay, BIG DISCLAIMER HERE. Japanese mayo has msg in it ..read more

Haupia, Hawaiian coconut pudding, is a favorite at Hawaiian luaus and potlucks, this recipe is easy and quick with only four ingredients! Coconut haupia is one of the most popular traditional Hawaiian desserts. A while ago, I posted a recipe for chocolate haupia pie. I figured it’s about time that I post a classic coconut haupia recipe. Haupia really is simple. It’s just a few ingredients, and it comes together quickly. No special equipment, no special ingredients. Simple simple simple. I personally like mine in pie form, because… well, there’s chocolate in it. But I will say, sometimes it’s ..read more

Pink Ombré Cheesecake

A perfect no bake ombré cheesecake recipe! This pink cheesecake is colored completely naturally, with freeze dried raspberries! Valentine’s day is coming up, so I needed to make something PINK! Ombre pink cheesecake. It’s perfect, isn’t it? The style of this cheesecake is a Japanese no bake cheesecake called “rare” cheesecake. Japanese no bakes cheesecakes are different from American ones because they use yogurt. It’s more tart, and a little less sweet. Just how I like it. I used thick Greek yogurt for this recipe, and the result was silky smooth! I try to avoid food coloring whenever possib ..read more

Soy Sauce Tofu with a Butter Glaze (Tofu Steaks)

Soy sauce and butter pair beautifully for this easy tofu soy sauce recipe. Soy sauce tofu is easy to cook, economical, and delicious!  I grew up eating tofu, so I tend to like it no matter what you do with it. I mostly had it in miso soup, which may be the most well known way to use it. That being said, NOW I tend to use tofu to make these tofu “steaks”. (Last year I posted a miso pecan tofu, so check that out too!) See, the thing about tofu is, it’s cheap and it’s easy to cook. Yes you have to press and drain it, but even if you hurry that process (I usually do, because I’m a last minut ..read more

Homemade Tonkatsu Sauce

Tonkatsu sauce is  popular in Japan for tonkatsu and other fried foods. This tonkatsu sauce recipe is easy to make and is tangy and rich. It makes a great Japanese style katsu chicken sauce and is perfect for dipping all your favorite deep fried food!  Growing up, whenever we had chicken katsu, tonkatsu, or korokke, we always had the Bulldog brand sauce along with it. And you know what? I never liked it. *gasp* I know. My brothers would pour a bunch on, and I would just very lightly put a few drops on mine. Weird kid. I also didn’t like to dip my fries in ketchup. Well, I dip my fri ..read more
