NRT patches not working?

I’m pregnant so I’m on NRT to stop my smoking. First box was fine, exactly how I remember them from the last time I went on NRT to quit, second box not so good. It’s the same brand and level but the packaging to the actual patch itself felt completely different. It went from straight plastic to a more papery feeling one. I thought it was kind of weird but put it on anyways and I’ve been having withdrawl symptoms that I never had with any of the other patches. It’s not just the hand to mouth reward system reflexes like it usually is. It’s exhaustion and irritability as if I have gone the whole ..read more

Been a social smoker for 20 years. Had the unfortunate experience of going to the ER for cardiac symptoms. While I was there, the CT scan report showed traces of emphysema. Weird part was, the doctors never mentioned it to me even after staying in the hospital for 3 days. Also, the report showed mild narrowing of the bronchial tube/ small airway disease. I dont intend to pick up another cigarette. I am scared to death. Havent smoked in over a month. in addition, I have shortness of breath. Will these conditions improve or will it get worst? Is trace that bad? Please help submitted by /u/Acro ..read more

I have abused nicotine gum to quit. It worked. I take 8mg at a time several times a day. I am weaning myself off the gum with reg gum. The good news is my body thinks that all gum is nicotine gum. When I chew any gum, I react to it like it’s nicotine gum. Pavlov was right!???????? submitted by /u/Puzzleheaded_Log9159 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hey fellow smokers and quitters, I'm facing a really tough situation right now and I could use some input from others who may have gone through something similar. Basically, I want to quit smoking cigarettes, so I want to be prepared for the toughest challenges in advance. What is, or what were your greatest obstacles? Has this approach been helpful to you to quit? How did you handle it? Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help. A Novel, Simple and Highly effective Smoking Cessation Technique involving total Puff reduction while smoking

This method involves reducing the number of puffs inhaled while smoking cigarette and therby only partially smoking a cigarette while throwing away the remaining portion of the cigarette. The smoker deliberately counts each puff that he/she inhaled and remembers the total number of puffs that is inhaled during the course of smoking the cigarette, a small number of puffs (5 to 10) is previously fixed by the smoker and when that number of puffs is reached he/she stops smoking further and discards the remaining cigarette. While following this method, the smoker may start by smoking the same numb ..read more

Down to 16 a day

Hi all. I started my quit journey about two weeks ago, give or take. I spent a few days figuring out how many cigarettes I smoked in a day. I roll my own so I lose track, and I was surprised to learn I was only averaging 20 a day. So I made a schedule. Every day I roll my allowance of cigarettes for the day, and when they're gone, that's it for the day. Every three days I lower my allowance by 1. By my math, I'll be down to one cigarette a day by the middle of January. Letting go of that last cigarette will be a doozy, but I have a strategy for that, too. I can absolutely do this. submitted ..read more

Hello. Still stopped 45 days. Very few real cravings except when talking to family. But I am overdoing the gum. Sore mouth and savage nightmares from the gum. But WHO CARES!!! I stopped smoking a pack a day!!! I have saved at least $540.00 in 45 days. FIVE HUNDRED FORTY DOLLARS! in my pocket!!! A pack of smokable cigs is 11.50-12.50 per pack. The gum at higher dose allowed me to really replace cigs. Patches do nothing for me. Nothing. The nicotine lozenges are heinous but will do in pinch. I’m going to pledge to this subreddit to start tapering off the gum. YOU CAN QUIT!!! Keep trying!!!! su ..read more

Four months in, sudden cravings

Hi all, I'm 133 days smoke-free, and it's the longest I've gone without a cigarette in ten years. I'm proud of myself for making it this far, and the physical symptoms of quitting had already ceased. However, as soon as it got cold outside and snow came in, I've had INSANE cravings, especially in the mornings and after meals. It's weird, I really thought winter would be easy to get through. Don't have to keep going into the cold, you know? Anyone else going through weird winter cravings? submitted by /u/esberanza [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
