The Green Bay Packers reached the divisional round of the NFC playoffs in 2023. General manager Brian Gutekunst will try to build upon that roster during the NFL Draft.  Here's the latest on which top prospects are visiting with the team. Michigan OL Zak Zinter  Zinter was the first of the top-30 visits for the Packers, according to Bleacher Report. A big part of Zinter's visit should be a medical checkup due to a horrific leg injury he suffered in the final game of Michigan's regular season against Ohio State.  For the full story, click here.  Texas A&M LB Edgerrin Coo ..read more

PackerCentral
by Bill Huber

GREEN BAY, Wis. – The first 10 days of NFL free agency have shaken up the NFC North betting odds, though not necessarily because of any moves made by the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers. In updated odds at FanDuel Sportsbook, the Lions are a strong favorite at +130. They are followed by the Packers at +210, the Chicago Bears at +350 and the Minnesota Vikings at +750. Before the start of free agency, the Lions were +145 to win the division. The Packers weren’t far behind at +230. The Vikings and Bears – neither of whom had any clarity at quarterback at the time – were +420 and +440, respect ..read more

PackerCentral
by Bill Huber

GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Green Bay Packers almost signed a veteran kicker to serve as a true challenger to Anders Carlson, a league source told Packer Central. The identity of the kicker will be withheld for this story. However, he has been a full-time kicker for multiple seasons. According to the source, the Packers offered him a contract and the kicker agreed to it, only for him to have a change of heart and sign with another team. That the Packers missed out on a veteran isn’t the story. Rather, it’s the confirmation that general manager Brian Gutekunst is looking to create a real competition ..read more

PackerCentral

While Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst could attack the second and third waves of NFL free agency, adding a veteran has never stopped him from taking that same position in the draft, as well. Using the Pro Football Network simulator for this seven-round mock draft with one big move up this week, the Packers were able to grab a building block to protect their franchise quarterback while filling out the back end of the depth chart.  First Round (Trade): Olu Fashanu, OT, Penn State This felt like a glitch in the system, but there have been some mock drafts that have seen Pen ..read more

GREEN BAY, Wis. – With the first waves of NFL free agency complete, here is a fresh batch of mock drafts. For the Green Bay Packers, Iowa defensive back Cooper DeJean was a popular pick before free agency. With just more than five weeks until the NFL Draft, that remains true. Chicago Tribune: Iowa DB Cooper DeJean Bears beat writer Brad Biggs went with the versatile playmaker who is seen as an option at cornerback, slot and safety. “The Packers changed defensive coordinators and replaced safety Darnell Savage with a splash signing of Xavier McKinney,” Biggs wrote. “DeJean would provide coverag ..read more

Packers Missed Tackles: Xavier McKinney vs. Darnell Savage

GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Green Bay Packers led the San Francisco 49ers 13-7 midway through the third quarter of their divisional playoff game. On first down from Green Bay’s 39, Christian McCaffrey took a middle toss and found a hole to the right. Waiting at about the 33 was safety Darnell Savage, with a chance to limit the damage. Instead, McCaffrey made a subtle cut to the left, Savage whiffed on the tackle and the 49ers were in front 14-13. It was the least surprising result imaginable. McCaffrey in 2023 led the NFL in forced missed tackles. Savage, as had been the case throughout his five sea ..read more

Packers Missed Tackles: Josh Jacobs, AJ Dillon, Aaron Jones

GREEN BAY, Wis. – In choosing Josh Jacobs over Aaron Jones, the Green Bay Packers are betting that the 2022 version of Jacobs will be their running back for 2024 and beyond. Jacobs’ 2022 season was spectacular. It wasn’t just that he led the NFL with 1,653 rushing yards, it’s how he did it. Jacobs forced 90 missed tackles, tops in the NFL, according to Pro Football Focus. On its own, his 1,156 yards after contact would have ranked eighth in the NFL. Jones, as spectacular as he was during his seven seasons with the team, never rushed for 1,156 yards in his career. That’s no slight on Jones. Amo ..read more

Note: This is a continuation of our roster-building series, which is based on The Move the Sticks podcast starring NFL.com’s Daniel Jeremiah and Bucky Brooks. In it, players are placed in tiers ranging Blue Chip, or one of the best players at his position, to Building Block, Backup and Easily Upgraded. Here's our look at quarterback and the defense. For most of the NFL, the running back position has become devalued over the last 20 years. That clearly is not the case for the Green Bay Packers. Aaron Jones received a second contract from the Packers. Despite their salary-cap issues, they kept h ..read more

Packers Continue Youth Movement in Free Agency, Building With 2025 in Mind
PackerCentral
by Joey Van Zummeren

This time last year, the Green Bay Packers had many more questions than they had answers. The goal for the 2023 season was to evaluate young talent and, most importantly, determine whether or not Jordan Love could be a franchise quarterback. General manager Brian Gutekunst was reluctant to add veterans through free agency that would take away snaps from younger players. They also didn't have much money to do so. Their first move in free agency came four days after the league’s legal tampering window opened, when they signed long snapper Joe Fortunato. A year later, the Packers were one of the ..read more
