Now that we have concluded business in the MLB Sweet Sixteen, naturally, it’s time for the MLB Elite Eight. There are a lot of teams here that belong here, but perhaps some that don’t. The 15-seeded 1998 Atlanta Braves squad is attempting an amazing Cinderella run to be crowned the greatest MLB team of the last century. There are also the plucky 12-seed 2019 Houston Astros. In reality, they lost to the equally plucky Washington Nationals in that year’s World Series. In our world of fantasy matchups, they are the underdogs, facing a tough second-round challenge in the 2022 Los Angeles Dodgers ..read more

Jerry Dipoto served as the manager of the Seattle Mariners from 2015-2022. Dipoto is the architect behind the Mariners ending their 21-year playoff drought. While the climb to contention was not easy, the rise came from the Mariners’ front office. The average fan may not know how frequently the 54-year-old trades players, who has overseen a lot of trades in his seven seasons. At the end of the 2021 season, Seattle promoted him to President of Baseball Operations. Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Teoscar Hernández was traded to the Seattle Mariners in exchange for right-handed reliever Erik Swanson and minor league pitcher Adam Macko. The Hernández trade shouldn’t come as a shock to many. A move like this was going to happen for Toronto this off-season. The Blue Jays’ bullpen was like a roller coaster, one that was with plenty of ups and downs. While the downs outweighed the ups, Toronto had to address the inconsistencies around the bullpen. Add that with a lineup that’s too right-handed. So, moving on from either Hernández or Lourdes Gurriel Jr. was bound ..read more

The home run leaders since 2017 are surprising at best. Each player’s home run is enough for people to witness one of the most thrilling moments in a baseball game. The all-time home run record in a season is 73, held by Barry Bonds in 2001. But before Bonds, there was a home run chase in 1998 that was between Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa. Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris kicked off the Expansion Era in 1961 with their home run race. Ultimately, Maris took the crown with 61 home runs while an injury limited Mantle to 54. Editors note: Stats are from Wednesday, September 28.  Home Run Leaders ..read more
