Rear Door Component Speakers?

I'm planning on installing component speakers up front on my third gen, and until recently was thinking coaxial in the back. but I recently found a good deal on two sets of component speakers and was wondering if there was a good place to mount the tweeters in the rear doors on a third gen. Or maybe not in the doors, maybe the rear pillars? Also, for installing components up front, should I pull out the stock tweeters and replace them with the component tweets. This would require running... Rear Door Component Speakers ..read more

Tip for head unit installs - get some tesa fleece backed tape

Between crimp connectors and some unused plugs, I ended up with a bunch of rattles behind a new head unit. Fine on smoth roads, but pretty annoying on anything rough. I bought some tesa tape on Amazon, wrapped all the harnesses, and used it to line a few areas where the head unit and dash contacted each other... seems to have solved it. Tesa tape is the same stuff most Euro vehicle manufacturers use to wrap their wires, fwiw. Here's a link: Tesa 51608 Black Fuzzy Fleece Interior Wire Loom... Suggest making this a sticky - DON'T USE PEEL AND SEAL for sound deadening!!. Read my story below. So about 2 years ago, I started sound deadening my doors and back wall in the double cab with Home Depot's Peel and Seal, and also another similar material from Lowes. I never did the floor or roof. Seamed like it was an ok idea - lots of 'people on the internet' saying there is no smell and that the stuff keeps well against the surface, and it was cheap! About 1/4 cost of normal sound... Dash cam mounting location?

I intend to order in the next few days a couple of dash cams (one pictured below and it's big brother Garmin 67W). I learned from my last dash cam that if I mount it to high on the windshield, up behind the rear view mirror that it will mess with my auto dimming feature. That dash cam didn't have such a "permanent mount so I was able to move it. I'm seeing these Garmin units are a little more locked in place once mounted.... So.. where have you guys had the best of luck mounting a dash cam?... Dash cam mounting location ..read more

Some sound proofing help.

Doing some sound proofing on the floor, current plan is to put a base of Siless 80mil with about 50% coverage, and then try to fully cover it with the Siless 200mil. Couple questions, Do i need to remove the factory sound deadening material (The blue stuff on the floor i think), And do i really need to cover 100% of the final layer with the 200mil stuff or is 95% good enough? The final 5% would just take an eon and a half of removing every single little clip.... Some sound proofing help ..read more

On my 2010 Taco, I've got a backup camera integrated with the rearview mirror. I'd like to move this to my aftermarket headunit though. The headunit uses a coaxial input for the camera. Is it as simple as just connecting the camera + and gnd wires to the coax with an adapter ..read more

Revisiting an old problem

Greetings, Don't you love revisiting your old projects? I am upgrading my head unit on a 2007 OR without JBL. A couple head units ago I had to splice in what believe was PAC SWI-RC steering wheel control adapter. In order to do that you had to splice in a resistor between the yellow and white/purple wire and something I can't remember to this red wire. On the end of the red wire there was a barrel connector splitting it three ways. I am trying to get back to square one/ stock setup to... Revisiting an old problem ..read more

Seven years in and now my radio is starting to get wacky. Only happened a couple of times but both incidents are within the last month. The radio will just shut down and restart on its own. I’ve had a few updates in the past but nothing in the last few years. Anyone else having this issue ..read more
