Hello! My sir hammy is getting older(3 years old). He's become more of a lazy hammy, he likes to burrow for long periods of time and come out to eat/drink then go back to bed. He has tons of enrichment but he is moving slower. Every time i dont hear him for long periods of time i get worried and wake him up and i think its pissing him off? but i get scared that he has passed in his burrow. How did you guys know your hammy had passed? Smell? Did they pass outside their house? Im trying to not disrupt him as much as possible. Thanks guys! And also so sorry for your losses submitted by /u/Stink ..read more

How often should I replace my hamsters bedding?

I notice my hamster often pees on her wheel and will sometimes poop in her sand bath. But I’ve had the same bedding for about two weeks and was wondering if I have to replace it all or just half? I never see her really pee in her bedding or notice it. I know that all the bedding with her scent if it’s removed will cause her to stress. But when should I replace half of it? I was planning to do so today. submitted by /u/WholeDifficult8014 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hamster passed on Thursday

We dont know what caused it specifically, but we think it was a heart issue. He was a happy hamster but i noticed he was becoming restless and seemed anxious. I also noticed that his wheel had diarrhea on his wheel which was probably from him being given too many greens (a problem i had solved previously). His 40gal has been completely cleaned out, toys cleaned, and im hoping i am able to give the best life possible to future hamsters. submitted by /u/AllegroOW [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Is my hamster okay?

So my Russian Dwarf Hamster Josie, has been drinking a LOT of water lately, not during the day but during the night. We made a switch to another food that has a lot of nutrients (Bunny Nature variety mix) and she enjoys her food. But I’m just concerned that she’s drinking too much water during the night. She is also urinating a lot which I’m assuming is because of her drinking a lot of water. Should I be concerned? submitted by /u/halcyondemure [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

First time traumatised hamster owner

The hamster is traumatised, not me. Six months ago, my daughter’s preschool contacted me to offer to adopt out two of their four hamsters. They weren’t really coming out during the day and the kids were disappointed. No one in our family had owned a hamster before, so we did all of our research, went back, and said we could take only one as they were meant to be solitary. They decided to split a pair where one was “bullying” another and we took the “bully.” They were in the largest cage the pet shop offers, which was too small, and I’ve seen videos of them in bin cages on the ground, surround ..read more

Hamster sleeps outside in tight spaces, does this mean anything or is he just being silly?

My hamster has been sleeping outside more often and will squeeze himself into tight spaces like a toilet roll and sleep in there. Does this mean anything (for example: is he not happy with his enclosure or is it too warm)? submitted by /u/koalafield [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Niteangel

Does anyone know if Niteangel has sales coming up? Specially on Amazon? I was very into DIYing my multi chamber hides etc but I’m so tempted by how nice their stuff looks and the benefit of adding the stilts. Plus I made the mistake of getting a 10 inch wheel (not realizing only Syrians are available in my country) so now I want to get the 12 inch but my options are the $55 Bucastate or the $75 Niteangel. I’m leaning toward just buying the Niteangel products but just wanted to ask whether they have any sales throughout the year? I’ve already spent so much on my boy and I love him a lot but if ..read more
