The Orange Juice blog’s Vern Nelson hasn’t quite figured out that the Orange County Register’s editorial desk is using him – as a Democrat – to make the case against Democrats that they don’t like.  He wrote glowing columns about Congressional candidates Allyson Damikolas and Joanna Weiss because the Register hates Joe Kerr and Dave Min.  And he was soundly defeated by voters. The Register hated the recall of OUSD Trustees and Ceci Iglesias from the Santa Ana City Council (and were neutral on the Jess Lopez recall), but the Register appears to be all in for the recall of Anaheim May ..read more

Today’s Challenging Campus Events Dear Campus Community, What a sad day for our university. I’m brokenhearted. At 2 p.m. on Wednesday, we, along with most other UC campuses, received the latest “demands” from the protesters. The protesters orchestrated a swift departure from their encampment. In a coordinated fashion they moved out of the encampment to the Physical Sciences Lecture Hall, where a small group barricaded themselves in, supported by a large group of community members who had gathered for a scheduled rally. For the last two weeks, I have consistently communicated that the ..read more

Valadao (R-CA) today introduced the bipartisan Transitioning Veterans Food Security Act to keep veterans’ fridges and pantries stocked as they navigate the often difficult transition to civilian life after military service. “Veterans have already sacrificed so much for our country; the last thing they should have to worry about when leaving the military is how to find their next meal,” said Congresswoman Porter. “Our hard-working servicemembe ..read more

Supervisor Katrina Foley Supervisor Katrina Foley’s re-election campaign has sent an email inviting folks to two June fundraisers; a luncheon June 7 and her Birthday Party June 26.  The email message is below and if you’re inclined, by all means attend. But know this is for a 2026 election — more than two and a half years out.  I understand her desire to build a warchest, but we have a critical election in 5 months. Do you know who needs your money for their campaigns?  Dave Min, Derek Tran, Joe Kerr, Mike Levin, and Lou Correra.  With due respect to Foley, these rac ..read more

Disgraced and indicted former President Donald Trump will be arriving in Newport Beach June 8, and there will be some sort of boat parade on June 9. The hosts for the June 8 event are huge Michelle Steel suppporters.  I wish I had more details on the location of the actual venue, but there are only a few places big enough to host a Trump event in NPB. Details are in the photos. Here’s a Tweet from the LA Times Seema Mehta: Trump heading to Beverly Hills and Newport Beach for fundraisers June 7 and 8. Top tix going for $250K. Agran falls just short of DGI Endorsement for Mayor
The Liberal OC

The DGI memo below offers details on the endorsement process, but nether former Mayor Larry Agran or former Vice Mayor Tammy Kim were able to garner 60% of the vote required for club endorsement. Agran got 54% of the vote to Kim’s 44%. The video of their speeches prior to voting eludes me now (when I find it, I’ll put it in).  Agran talked about big picture goals for Irvine’s future.  Kim’s covered a story of a somewhat distopian bleak future about of the high cost of housing; her model of what Irvine is doesn’t match mine at all, and she took full credit for moving the Great Park f ..read more
