Hi there! It’s Marsha here today, sharing how you can create monotypes on the Gelli® plate. One of the questions I get sometimes is: Is a gel print a monotype or a monoprint? The answer is: A Gelli® plate enables you to create both monoprints and monotypes. A monoprint is a one-of-a-kind print created using a repeatable matrix or repeatable printing elements. The matrix or elements vary depending on the printmaking method: an etched plate, a cut woodblock, a silk screen or litho stone with a design, or a linocut. Translating this to gel printing: When you combine a variable ink or paint ..read more

Hi! It’s Birgit here today and I’m excited to share this cute little project with you! Do you remember these fun folded paper thingies called fortune tellers, chatterboxes, cootie catchers or snapdragons? I used to make them when I was a kid and even later when I was a teenager. As kids we would use them to play games, put assignments in there like climb on the table, then jump off or try to steal some cookies or sing a song. And later when we were teenagers we would use them as fortune tellers. They would tell us who we would fall in love with, how many kids we would have and so on. In 2 days ..read more

Hi there! It’s Marsha here today, sharing how you can create no-stress valentines with the help of a Gelli® plate and handmade foam stamps! Have you ever tried making your own foam stamps? It’s super easy and a suitable project for all ages. And the fun thing is that you can make foam stamps to fit any occasion you can think of! You can use regular or adhesive-backed craft foam to create your stamps. Regular craft foam can be backed with double-sided adhesive tape, or you can use glue to adhere your foam pieces to a base. I like to use a thicker craft foam for the base. However, any craft f ..read more

Hello everyone, Giovanna here! Today, I’ve combined recycling, my passion for gel printing, and slow stitching in a video. I’ll show you how to create a beautiful purse out of an old pair of jeans. It’s perfect for holding pencils, make-up, or – just like me – a small kit for gel printing on the go. I used regular acrylic paint. If you’d like the fabric to be washable, you can add fabric medium to it or simply use fabric paint instead. Enjoy Wishing you a 2024 full of creativity and a lot of gel printing!  Step by step: -Cut a large chunk of the jeans leg -Adhere a stencil on the jeans ..read more

Hi there! Happy New Year! It’s Marsha here today, sharing an idea for exploring colour without thinking about colour theory.  Are you a limited palette lover or a multicolour gel printer? And, do you like to use paint colours straight out of the tube, or do you like colour mixing? It’s no secret that I like gel printing with a limited palette. However, I’m not a huge colour mixer. I usually go for tube colours because it’s easy and fast.  There is a downside, though, too. The result can look busy, clashy and not very harmonious. So, if you’d like to level up your gel printing game ..read more

Hi there! It’s Marsha here today, sharing how I create multi-layered gel prints using different types of masks. In the video, I’m gel printing with one of the two brand new Gelli Arts® Perfect Borders sets.  I chose the one with the fabulous new 4″x6″ gel printing plate and the new .5″ Mini Placement Tool. This combo is perfect for creating 5″x7″ cards or prints with a nice .5″ border. Masking is basically blocking paint transfer by covering parts of the gel plate or the paper. It’s a super versatile technique that will work not only with masks and stencils but any thin, flat item. Thi ..read more

Hi there! It’s Marsha here, and today, I’ll share how I created more cards with the new Gelli Arts® holiday stencils. This time, I focused on using alcohol and solvent-based inks on the Gelli® plate. Have you ever tried using alcohol inks on the gel plate? Here’s what you need to know before you start: 1. Alcohol inks are safe to use on the Gelli® plate. 2. Alcohol inks can stain your plate permanently. You can clean off most ink residue with a drop of baby oil; however, you will likely not be able to remove the discolouration. 3. Discolouration of the gel plate doesn’t affect future printin ..read more
