Altera MAX 7000S series strange LCELL behaviour

Though this is not strictly Apple II related, since the Altera Max 7000 series CPLD is popular here, I feel I have a duty to warn. I can't find the exact quote from UncleBernie, but I remember reading him telling about "in his days" people having their expectations about CPLD/FPGA being 'reajusted' by reality. The last couple of days have been such days for me.   I have been fixing/annoyed by/cursing at an issue with the AUX RAM / Motherboard RAM, where it seemed fixing one would break the other. To be precise, an issue with the enabling of the address bus by the IOU/MMU.   Let ..read more

Hello,I'm trying to make the following parts work together, it's my understanding that they should but I'm not having much luck. The parts are:   Apple Color Composite Monitor IIe  (Model A2M6021X) Apple Extended 80-Column Colour Card (Model A661-91097) Apple IIe Enhanced PAL (Model 607-288-B) This machine works fine with a monochrome monitor and when I plug the Apple Color Monitor into the on board RCA I get a back and white signal, which is to be expected. However when I plug the Apple Color Monitor into the RCA on the Extended 80 Column Colour card I get no signal. Is ther ..read more

Hello fellow members, i recently picked up my first iic. The seller described it as no beep and no video.  To my surprise the machine had an Ultra 2 board with a zip chip 4.  The PCB looked clean. No corrosion  anywhere.  I removed the memory board and installed a 65C02 on the motherboard  and the machine booted.  Vertical scroll on the video but a monitor adjustment corrected that. Self test showed ram was all good.  But something was  still wrong.  I had to readjust the scrolling several times after the machine was powered down and powered b ..read more

Replace HAL chip -Apple IIe Plat?

Hello all,   I'm new to the AppleII workd, and am trying to resurrect an Apple IIe Platinum, but am having an issue.   The problem is that the machine boots fine when cold (and is able to run some very simple BASIC  programs), but in a few minutes after startup, it freezes.  Rebooting at that point brings up "Apple IIe" title screen but NO command prompt.  Once I let it cool for an hour or so, it boots normally again. In my investigations, I noticed that the HAL chip gets extremely hot after the machine has been on for just a few minutes -- hot enough that I ..read more

Greetings, Now that I have built up and have my 6809 Co-processor running,I'd be grateful if anyone can point me where to obtain the EDIT and C-Compiler software for Apple II OS9.The OS9 images from the Asimov archive are missing those parts. I assume it was not in the original distro. I'd also appreciate suggestions how to transfer software to and from OS9 system.I'm aware of Luca's github page descibing the Os9-Conv_Tool.Perhaps someone has made efforts to do this. Thanks in advance. IIc RAM Troubleshooting

Hi All,   Apologies in advance for yet another Apple IIc RAM related post! Bit of a story for background and what I've already tried doing.    Background:  About a year ago, I bought myself an Apple IIc on TradeMe, a local auction site here in New Zealand. While I've got a rather large decent sized Mac collection, this was my first venture in to the Apple II lineup. It worked perfectly on arrival although I only had two 5.25" disks at the time so I couldn't do much with it that I didn't want to have to type in again! Managed to get myself a couple boxes of disks, and boost ..read more

"Angela Game" porting from Olivetti Programma 101 to Applesoft Basic

Dear friends, I am pleased to share a new entry in the software library for Apple-1, but not only: it's the porting of the very famous ANGELA GAME, originally written for Olivetti Programma 101.   This game, simple and amusing but very difficult, became extremely popular at BEMA in New York in 1965, where our beloved P101 was introduced for the first time.   The rules are simple: - You set a number to reach (goal) - You choose a number from 1 to 6 - The computer does the same - The numbers are added up and they contribute to the approach to the goal - You cannot play the same number ..read more

Apple IIc That Ram Test Runs Over and Over

I have a IIc that now has a ROM4x installed. It previously has a 255 ROM. With the keyboard unpluged, and then powered on, the Ram test starts. But is never finishes. The System OK message does not appear.  Before this, there wer 3 bad ram chips I replaces with sockets and previously testing good ram chips. When I plug in a good keyboard and then run the Ram test, I get the System OK message. Do I need to worry about this? Thanks   Forums:  Apple II ..read more
