Yellow stars give superman is powers, or unlocks them, and our star IS classified as a main sequence "yellow dwarf" but that name itself is a misnomer - there ARE yellow stars (or they produce light mostly within that wavelength) our star "The Sun" is white however. We use an orange representation we get from ultraviolet analysis, and it appears yellow and orange in the sky for the same reason the sky itself it blue, the wavelengths seperate and the light particles scatter. So while James Gunn has pretty much confirmed the presence of an entire brand balls deep into DCU non-canon stories called "DC Elseworlds", I couldn't help but notice that most of those projects are either Batman projects or Batman-related projects. So why not pitch an Elseworlds project on Superman?
