Missing Civil Marriage records

Wondering if anyone can help me out. My 2x Great Grandparents were married in Lackagh, Galway in 1868. I found the church record but I can't seem to find the corresponding civil record. I thought it might just be a down to an error so I looked up other couples that got married around the same time and there doesn't seem to be any records for them either. Any idea why the records might be missing and how one could find them ..read more

Looking at family relations in north Wexford that were as far as I know church of Ireland. But a lot of the family members are noted as THW. What is this or what does it stand for? http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Wexford/Cahore/Cullentra/685963 ..read more

As I was scanning the news headlines on the TV channels this morning I came across this story. I confess I still haven't read all of it, but just enough to wonder who I might really be related to!! It's just a bit of fun! Any young Brian Boru's out there? https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20230503-coronation-of-king-charles-iii-do-you-carry-royal-dna ..read more

New bill re opening of old safety deposit boxes

I thought the following may be of interest to some here from a genealogy point of view. Basically safety deposit boxes held in banks not touched in over 80 years will be opened. These could contain money, jewelary, works of art, deeds, wills etc. Owners/Owners family will try to be traced within 6 months of opening. The finds could be very interesting - it could make some families rich and also cause property rows etc! Im hoping we will hear more about the finds when it goes ahead. https://www.thejournal.ie/bill-treasure-trove-memorabilia-old-safe-deposit-boxes-6048608-Apr2023 ..read more

Have a few distant relations here. I have details from irishgenealogy.ie - (scanned church registers there are a great resource). I'm wondering about actually visiting the cemetery. Can it be entered? What sort of condition is it in? Is it safe to visit? etc. On Rootschat there is reference to a key in a local house, any details of this? Also reference to a map - would anyone have a copy of those images? Thanks ..read more

Help finding a death cert

I'd appreciate any help in finding a death record. She was born Celia Finan on 22nd August 1885 in Cloonfower, Castlerea, Co. Roscommon. She was also recorded as Celia in the census records. She married Greene. Her name is recorded as Cecelia Greene on her memorial card and her death is recorded as 12th March 1957 aged 71. Her address was Lismurtagh, Tulsk, Co. Roscommon. I haven't been able to find any death record for her. It looks like her death wasn't registered. I just thought that I'd post it here to see if anyone may be able to find something if they're willing. Thank you ..read more

Roz McCutcheon RIP

I learned late yesterday evening of the sad passing of Roz McCutcheon, one of Ireland's foremost genealogists. I didn't know her personally but did get to chat with her at one of the genealogy shows at the RDS a few years ago and a wonderful chat it was which could have gone on for hours if time had allowed. She was a vice-president of the IGRS and had a particular interest in the Registry of Deeds. A must-watch available on YouTube is a talk she gave on the Registry which is as entertaining as it is informative. My thoughts are with her family and friends at this time ..read more
