I am experiencing the following annoying problem on Ancestry:- I search for John Smith born 1845 in Leeds I then want to search for George Brown, born 1900 in Wakefield I change the name from John Smith to George Brown, I then change birth date from 1845 to 1900, but as soon as I change 'Leeds' to 'Wakefield' , Ancestry immediately repeats the previous search using John Smith's criteria - erasing all the changes I just made- aaargh The only way I can search for George, is to clear the search fields for John Smith first, before I attempt to enter George's details.!!! Mary Dillon was at the bedside of Edmond Purcell when he died on 14th November 1904 and was the informant on his Death Certificate. She listed her residence as Johnstown,Kilkenny. I tried to find her on the 1901 & 1911 census's. I looked at births but no Mary Dillons in Johnstown. She was also on a military document as the stepsister of Michael Purcell allegely born in Johnstown. When and where was she born, and how is she related to Edmond and Michael Purcell. Hello I am looking for information on Francis Vivian Miller and i am having no luck finding a birth certificate information on GRO He was born on or around 1893 possibly in Stroud and his father was Ernest Miller and His mother Ellen Miller (nee Church) He was married in 1918 to Marjorie Harcourt Freeman in Fiji and died in Auckland in 1964 his date of birth is not recorded on the death certificate and his birthplace is England The reference to Stroud comes from Ancestry.com so realise this may not be is birthplace but i have contacted the regional birth register to see if they have any inform ..read more

Since the catalogue stopped working last week and then re-started it has put the name of men in the Durham Home Guard (series WO 409) in each piece description in twice (so a 'William Brown' would be listed as 'William Brown William Brown'). I have a couple of brick walls about Joseph Grocott who married Sarah Barrow in Norton Le Moors, Staffs 16/09/1819. By the 1841 census, I can find no trace of Joseph, but Sarah is living in the same abode as William Wood (in Stoke on Trent) with her children by Joseph Grocott (John, William and Charles) and a younger son Henry Wood registered March Qtr 1838. The 1851 census shows her as married to William. My first question is, can anyone find a marriage for Sarah and William? Searching for a baptism on FMP in Warrington, I restricted the search to Lancashire, and all that came up was a transcription for the person concerned. Changing the restriction to Cheshire however, brought up the same christening, in the same church as before, but also with an associated image! I know Warrington vacillated between Cheshire and Lancashire, but you’d think FMP would remain consistent. So if you’re looking for a PR image, make sure you try both counties.
