I have tried something a little similar. I found I could untar the small header file, modify its content and then re-tar it. Sending that to the radio using the patch server then allows an upgrade to complete even on a radio that has never had Sharpfin installed. The small header file was available from the Reciva server with an extension .patch, e.g. sp257-a-865-a-476.patch accompanying each update. BTW, I noticed that after upgrading the firmware (not Sharpfin, but the Reciva firmware / service pack) of the radio to a more recent one, NTP suddenly started to work. This probably means that NTP doesn't work at all on older firmware releases. And on newer firmware releases it probably suffices to do a DNS redirect, either on your DNS server or by modifying /etc/hosts, or reroute NTP traffic on port 123 to a NTP server of your choice ..read more
