Dongle DAC completely changed sound

I just got a cheap dongle DAC from AliExpress (cx31993) to use on my laptop since there was a static sound every few minutes. I decided to try it out on my desktop PC first since that's where I use my IEMs (Zero Red) the most. Before the dongle DAC, the Reds had a substantial amount of bass that tended to overpower everything else. I heard that they were supposed to be a neutral sounding IEM but didn't really think much of it. After trying the dongle, it completely changed the sound profile. There was significantly less bass, and the sound in general felt way more spaced out between different ..read more

As a Chinese audiophile, I am very concerned about the development of "chi-fi", and have made a mind map to explain how chi-fi has gained a foothold and how did the Moondrop HiFi Smartphone came into being. I hope this will help you understand the development of chi-fi, if you are also interested in it? Chi-Fi and Moondrop Phone Don't mind asking me any questions about chifi. I may not reply in time though. submitted by /u/Sha1rholder [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Back to basics but that’s ok…

Life is ever changing and I’ve recently down sized from my collection of high end gear to this modest A90D/D90 stack and the infamous HD650. While not cheap by any means, it is still in comparison a “budget” end game setup. The HD650 has always sounded like home whether it be used as a reference or for enjoyment. What I’m getting at is, who here has gone full circle back to the HD 650 and have been thoroughly happy with them even after the long journey of finding the perfect gear? submitted by /u/Kbeau937 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Master & Dynamic MW08s: Recommended Wavelet tweaks to open them up and/or should I switch to Sennheiser MOMENTUM True Wireless 4s?

All, I am currently using the MW08 earbuds which I tweak often with Wavelet. I use them interchangeably with my Pixel Buds Pro, which I find to be worse and less comfortable than the MW08s, even with Wavelet's assistance. I got them as a bundle with my Pixel 8 Pro though, so I might as well use them. I'm hoping that Wavelet adds an AutoEq preset for the MW08s soon; currently, it only supports the MW07 and MW07 Plus with both presets resulting in mediocre performance IMHO. Because of this, I keep considering the idea of selling both the MW08s and Pixel Buds Pro, putting the proceeds toward ..read more

As you may know, the STAX SR-X1 and the STAX SRS-X1000 are bound to be released on the 9th of May this year at many retailers in Japan. There have been some demos earlier this year. If you got to try it, what is your opinion on it? Is it a good starter for estats? submitted by /u/KnightDIRT [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Review of the Topping DX3 Pro+ as an MX3s owner with HD650s

I got the DX3 Pro+ today after looking at a number of reviews and watching a whole evening's worth of videos. On paper the 250mW x2 @ 300Ω seemed interesting over the 100mW x2 @ 300Ω on the MX3s, plus the lower noise and THD levels. It was £200 on Amazon so I knew I could get it and return it if the amplification wasn't a marked improvement over the MX3s which already is an excellent amp for headphones and speakers, whether in low or high gain as there's no distortion that I could hear at any volume that wasn't genuinely uncomfortable.. So when it arrived today and I had it set up stacked on ..read more

They aren't giving us GMS, aka the Play Store or any of Google's apps, out of the box, and they're admitting the camera sucks. The camera is of no consequence but the lack of GMS is a potentially major issue. I don't know how difficult it will be to install these things, but I guess we know part of how they achieved the price. submitted by /u/ArkhamKnight0708 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
