Abstract Background
Candida albicans is linked to persistent endodontic lesions. However, the recognition receptor that identifies it is not explored previously.
Objectives
The aim of this study was to (1) establish a zymosan induced model of apical periodontitis in mouse, (2) observe the expression of Dectin-1 and its possible relationship with toll like receptor (TLR) 2 and (3) observe relationship between Osteopontin (OPN) and inflammatory cytokines.
Methods
A total of 138 Naval Medical Research Institute (NMRI) mice were randomly divided into; Experimental Group n=69 and Zymosan Group n=69 ..read more

Abstract Objectives
This study examined the association of Temporomandibular disorder (TMD) symptoms with personality traits, psychological distress, somatization, and oral behaviors. The psychosocial and oral behavioral risk factors for TMD symptoms were also established in Asian young adults.
Methods
Participants were recruited from a large private University. Based on the quintessential five TMD symptoms (5Ts) of the DC/TMD, the participants were stratified into those with no (NT), painful (PT), dysfunctional (DT), and mixed (MT) TMD symptoms. Personality traits, psychological distress, som ..read more

Abstract Background
Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) are characterized by pain and impaired masticatory functions. The Integrated Pain Adaptation Model (IPAM) predicts that alterations in motor activity may be associated with increased pain in some individuals. The IPAM highlights the diversity of patients’ responses to orofacial pain and suggests that such diversity is related to the sensorimotor network of the brain. It remains unclear whether the pattern of brain activation reflects the diversity of patients’ responses underlying the association between mastication and orofacial pain.

Abstract
The role of genetic factors, based on twin correlations, was relatively modest, suggesting that environmental factors may play a major role in SB etiology. Notably, smoking status and nicotine dependence were strongly and significantly positively associated with SB ..read more

Abstract
When the Journal of Oral Rehabilitation was established in 1973, there was very limited understanding of the mechanisms underlying neurally based functions, including those unique to the face, mouth, and jaws (e.g. dental pain, taste, chewing, swallowing, and salivation). Since that time, technological and other advances have led to new insights into the structure, connectivity and function of cranial nerves and areas of the central nervous system (CNS) involved in orofacial functions and disorders or related functions (e.g. cognition, emotion, stress, consciousness, sleep, learning a ..read more

Abstract Objectives
This study investigated the inter-relationship of painful Temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) with bodily pain, psychological well-being, and distress in young people from a Confucian-heritage culture (CHC).
Methods
Adolescents/young adults were recruited from a local polytechnic in Singapore. While the presence/severity of painful TMDs and bodily pain were established with the DC/TMD TMD Pain Screener (TPS) and Maciel's Pain Inventory, psychological well-being and distress were evaluated with the Scales of Psychological Well-being-18 (SPWB-18) and Patient Health Questionnai ..read more

Abstract Background
Oral health literacy was recognized as important to encouraging oral health and avoiding oral health diseases. Therefore, this study was conducted to assess oral health literacy (OHL) and oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) among undergraduate students studying at university.
Materials & Methods
A prospective cross-sectional study was carried out from November to February 2023 among the students of King Khalid University. OHL and OHRQoL were assessed using a Rapid estimate of adult literacy in dentistry-30 (REALD-30) and oral health impact profile (OHIP-14). Fu ..read more

Abstract Objective
Bruxism patients often access the web to search for information. Unfortunately, the low text readability of online material and the limited medical literacy in the general population may prevent patients' understanding of health information. We aimed to assess the home page's readability of the top 10 patients-oriented bruxism-related websites and the educational level required to approach them.
Materials and methods
Using the word bruxism in the “no country redirect” extension of Google Chrome browser (www.google.com/ncr), we identified the first 10 patient-oriented English ..read more

Abstract Background
Disc displacement with reduction (DDwR) therapy should be performed only when pain or discomfort is presented. Data on treatment options for painful DDwR are very limited.
Objective
The aim was to investigate whether an isometric training of the lateral pterygoid muscle (LPM) is equivalent to stabilization appliance therapy with regard to treatment of painful DDwR. The training program is based on the science of Janda.
Methods
This was a prospective, randomized study with a comparative treatment group. Sixty patients (≥18 years) with DDwR and pain were randomly assigned to ..read more
