Building a RAG application with Redis and Spring AI

Introduction Vector databases frequently act as memory for AI apps. This is especially true for those powered by large language models (LLMs). Vector databases allow you to perform semantic search, which provides relevant context for prompting the LLM.  Until recently, there weren’t many options for building AI apps with Spring and Redis. Now, Redis has gained traction as a high-performance vector database. And the Spring community introduced a new project called Spring AI, which aims to simplify the development of AI-powered apps, including those that leverage vector databases.  Let ..read more

Redis recently announced its achievement of the Google Cloud Ready designation for CloudSQL and AlloyDB. Cloud SQL is Google Cloud’s fully managed relational database service for MySQL, PostgreSQL, and SQL Server. AlloyDB for PostgreSQL is Google Cloud’s newest fully managed PostgreSQL-compatible database service. This designation signifies that Redis’ solution has met the certification guidelines and has been validated by Google, following a collaborative effort with Google’s engineering teams. The Google Cloud Ready program designation is a significant milestone that enables enterprises to a ..read more

What Redis’ License Change Means for Our Managed Service Providers
Redis
by Ash Vijay

Since we announced last week that future versions of Redis will be released under dual source-available licenses, we decided to outline a few changes in how we will work with managed service providers going forward. Redis considers companies offering Redis OSS embedded in a solution or Redis-complementary services as managed service providers (“MSPs”). This licensing change does not impact developers who continue to build on our source-available Community Edition, and most importantly, we are staying committed to that developer community and enterprise customer base by investing in a strong pa ..read more

Lettuce joins the family of officially supported clients under the Redis umbrella. With the Redis 7.2 release, we’re committed to supporting the key client libraries that the developer community uses.  These official client libraries complement the latest Redis functionality, security features, and are optimized for performance, with consistent docs and user interfaces. Lettuce joins the other five official client libraries––Jedis (Java), node-redis (NodeJS), redis-py (Python), NRedisStack (.Net), and Go-Redis (Go).  Lettuce is an advanced and non-blocking Java Redis driver that ..read more

Following yesterday’s announcement of the Redis licensing change, we want to provide a wider view of our future for our customers, partners, and the developer community.  Redis has been a tremendous success, thanks to the support of our developer community and the hard work of the entire Redis team. The principles outlined in the Redis manifesto continue to guide our approach to building software. As a company built by developers for developers, we constantly seek feedback from our ecosystem on how we can improve and add new capabilities.  So, what have we heard and where are we inve ..read more

Redis Adopts Dual Source-Available Licensing
Redis
by Rowan Trollope

Future Redis releases will continue to offer free and permissive use of the source code under dual RSALv2 and SSPLv1 licenses; these releases will combine advanced data types and processing engines previously only available in Redis Stack. Beginning today, all future versions of Redis will be released with source-available licenses. Starting with Redis 7.4, Redis will be dual-licensed under the Redis Source Available License (RSALv2) and Server Side Public License (SSPLv1). Consequently, Redis will no longer be distributed under the three-clause Berkeley Software Distribution (BSD). From day o ..read more

Storing and accessing data efficiently is a looming concern. Vector databases have emerged as a crucial technology in the field of data management and artificial intelligence applications, playing a significant role in modern computing. Unlike a traditional relational database, a vector database is designed to efficiently handle and retrieve vector embeddings of complex data types like images, videos, and audio. This makes them particularly suited for advanced search capabilities and AI-driven data analysis. But what are vector embeddings, what makes them so useful, and when should you use a v ..read more

New technologies come and go quicker than the seasons. Sometimes it’s hard, as a developer, to know which tools are worth knowing about and learning how to use, and which will seem like last year’s news in only two months. Project Jupyter however, is definitely worth taking the time to learn about. They’ve been creating tools to help developers for almost a decade. Their Executive and Software Steering Councils include folks from top-notch companies like AWS, Netflix, and Apple.  They also recognize distinguished contributors every year. The classic Jupyter Notebooks have trickled into ed ..read more
