16th November 2023 – We had fun filming for the ITV early evening news It all started with a phone call in the morning – explaining to us that Hen Hotels had become increasingly popular, so could they come and see our setup and talk more about how popular chicken keeping has now become plus how so many people are now using hen hotels when they go away on holiday. 31st October 22 Housing measures to protect poultry and captive birds from avian influenza are being extended and will be in force across England from 00:01 on Monday 7 November 2022. This means that, from this time, it will be a mandatory requirement for all bird keepers across England to keep their birds housed and to follow strict biosecurity measures, in order to limit the spread and to eradicate the disease. It’s that time of year – Moulting

So over the past few weeks, a number of my hens are going through the moult – not a pretty sight but give them a few weeks and they will have lovely new feathers starting to grow Don’t panic when your chickens start losing their feathers. Moulting is a normal and natural process of shedding feathers and re-growing them that all chickens go through. The best thing you can do to help your chickens through the moult is to feed extra protein feed or treats – sunflower seeds, mealworms and add some poultry spice to their feed or tonic to their water. Wow what a busy Summer …

We have had such a busy Summer – with chicken deliveries in June, July, and August – all of which sold out in a number of weeks. To everyone going away and needing their hens looked after so our hen hotels have been fully booked all through the Summer with not just hens but we had 3 bunnies we looked after too. We even had to extend to accommodate the extra Holiday visitors… So having had the busiest summer for a while we are now taking a well-deserved break (just for a few days) 7th -12th September. Our May delivery of hybrids arrived last Wednesday 4th May they are a mix of 16-20 week old hens some have now come into lay, so we are getting a number of pullet eggs.
