A Day with Strong (Gusty) West Wind

It was uncommonly windy all day. Unfortunately, there was so much north in the wind that it was very unstable. I used my 7.0 m^2 rig (one size smaller than my usual 8.5), but in the gusts this was still a bit too much. I spent more time in the water than standing on the board, but it was still a worthwhile session. Here are some representative stills and a condensed video. (Oops, I mounted the GoPro cam too far forward on the boom end ..read more

They came over from their home in Loganton for their first taste of sailboarding. The donation, an anniversary present from Amy to Neil, went to the Penns Valley Conservation Association.      After preliminary instruction on land and in the shallows, I sailed with them on the lake. They both learned how to steer and how to tack. The still pics below are portions of frames from the video ..read more

June M. had windsurfed several decades ago and is interested in picking it up again. The first (left-hand) video shows June in her first lesson, on August 23. She made rapid progress: The next one shows her working on pivot-jibes in her next lesson, on August 29. (Sorry about the flaccidity of the sail; I keep forgetting that the downhaul tension of this sail works itself loose ..read more

Scott S. and his son Ben S. (age 11) came for a first ever windsurfing experience. Scott caught on quite quickly and was soon helping by giving his son guidance.
