Snatched from Hell
Scripture Notes
by Oak Norton

On this Easter morning, I’m very grateful to have discovered a word in the Book of Mormon that perfectly describes this day. The word is “snatched” and it’s use in the Book of Mormon is perfectly suited for God’s mercy in sending his Son to save us. Alma the younger is an interesting story. His father was part of wicked king Noah’s court, but believing on the words of Abinadi the prophet, Alma Sr. had to flee for his life from Noah and his officers. Hiding himself but secretly preaching the word to the people, Alma convinced many of the truth of God’s redeeming message and baptized them at th ..read more

Dave Butler and Oak Norton Illustrate Scripture Study Using 2 Enoch 30
Scripture Notes
by Oak Norton

After posting the last video with Dave Butler on “Approaches to Scripture Study,” someone commented on YouTube that they were disappointed we didn’t dive deeper into one of the verses we were discussing in 2 Enoch 30 and to show how we would go about studying it using Scripture Notes. So last night we got together and did a study session on these verses that neither of us was familiar with. We believe this is valuable to not only see how you can use Scripture Notes for research, but also some methodology for anyone to research in the scriptures. Though I didn’t pop this up during the event, on ..read more

Do we Comprehend our Nature?
Scripture Notes
by Oak Norton
1M ago
Last week while doing a search in my scriptures, I stumbled on a verse in 2 Enoch 30 which stunned me. I had been reading somewhere about the four parts of the earth and wondered if there might be more meaning behind this phrase. The scriptures talk about the four parts, four corners, four winds, four quarters, etc…. The number four in Hebrew can mean: Divine revelation; complete harmony; sufficiency; completeness and perfection; totality; God’s creations; man; and glory So the four parts of the earth represent the complete creations of God. Some might suggest groupings like air, water, fire ..read more

When considering why certain relationships in your life are still struggling, have you ever taken inventory of yourself wondering what you were missing? Your heart is right; your love is strong; you’ve prayed without ceasing; you’re a truth seeker and have tried everything imaginable to make things better…  What do you yet lack? The answer that completely transformed my family culture — the grand clue for which I had searched so long — was found hiding in plain sight: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” As it turns out ..read more

How to be Encircled in God’s Love
Scripture Notes
by Oak Norton

I love seeing word patterns in the scriptures, particularly when a word appears only or mostly in the Book of Mormon. In this example, the word is “encircle.” This word appears 24 times in the Book of Mormon, and once in the Doctrine and Covenants. Webster’s 1828 puts the definition as: ENCIR’CLE, v.t. ensur’cl. [from circle.] [.] 1. To inclose or surround with a circle or ring, or with any thing in a circular form. [.] 2. To encompass; to surround; to environ. [.] 3. To embrace; as, to encircle one in the arms. It’s this third definition I find fascinating. To be encircled by God can be calle ..read more
