On July 12th in Phoenix Arizona, Scott Karpiuk was inducted as Canada’s First 8th Degree Black Belt ATA Chief Master! The ceremony took place in the Phoenix Convention Centre in front of over 1500 spectators, family, friends and ATA Masters.  The Master’s Class of 2023 included the historic induction of three new 9th Degree Grand Masters, nine 8th Degree Chief Masters, eleven 7th Degree Senior Masters and thirty four 6th Degree Masters (including Master Wilson, one of Chief Master Karpiuk’s students). About 2 dozen or more Canadian students, instructors and Masters travelled to Phoenix Arizona last week for World Championships.  I was going for Chief Mastership training and Induction.  Chief Mastership Induction is a year long process with many assignments, zoom training, in person training and personal training.  It culminates with the Master’s Ceremony in the middle of World Championship. Next week we will be performing our Annual Kickathon Fundraiser for Surrey Food Bank and our Instructors travelling to World Championships in July.  This year, students have been collecting pledges for the total number of kicks they can perform in 5 minutes. Our Annual Kickathon Fundraiser for Surrey Food Bank has partnered with two other ATA Martial Arts schools in Surrey, Legacy & Challenger.  Instructors from these schools will also be travelling to World Championships and raising funds for the Surrey Food Bank. ATA Spring Nationals a Success! Last week saw our annual ATA Spring Nationals in Dallas Texas.  It was a huge success!  Competitors travelled from all over the globe to attend training seminars and competition.  Saturday alone saw over 2100 competitors, even though the surrounding area had tornado warnings early in the week.  Which hampered some travel plans and wiped out one competitor families home! Academy Students Perform Well at Local Tournament!  On Saturday Dec. 3rd, our Academy Students participated in the first post covid local tournament.  It was held in South Surrey.  Academy Students Perform Well at Local Tournament!  Over 25 students registered and competed.  There were a total of 288 competitors coming from as far away as Oregon! This past Saturday our students attended our Annual Halloween Party.  One of the emphases was Halloween Safety!  We want our students to be safe during this and every Halloween. Halloween Safety takes on many forms.  From making sure that costumes have bright reflective portions to inspecting candy.  Parents, as our children grow older, we are involved less and less with our kids Halloween Safety.  Don’t make the mistake of letting them prepare their own “dark” costume that can’t be seen at night!  Light coloured costumes are best that can bee seen at night!  ..read more
