A new report from Harvard Law School and New York University has found that the next global pandemic could originate from the meat industry in the United States. Many diseases, including HIV/AIDS, Ebola, SARS and COVID-19, have originated from human use of animals and there is a high risk that the next major pandemic will have its origins in the animal agriculture industry. Tax Office urged to allow tax deductible donations for all animal charities

A government inquiry into increasing donations to charities has been urged to allow tax deductible donations (DGR) for all charities advocating for animals. In a submission to the Productivity Commission's Philanthropy Inquiry, Vegan Australia has recommended changes to the tax law. Currently only charities that directly help individual animals (such as animal shelters) can receive tax deductible donations.
