Sarah will be singing an expanded program of Joni Mitchell music this October 28th with the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra! New charts will include “Circle Game”, “River”, “Hejira”, “Refuge of the Roads” and more… Sarah first sang selections from Joni's Travelogue and Both Sides Now albums with the SSO in 2018 - it was the first time these orchestral arrangements had been heard in Canada. Two trips to beautiful BC within 6 months! Sarah will be performing with the Kamloops Symphony March 10-11 in 2023 for their spring season. This will be the third orchestra in British Colombia that Sarah has collaborated with - first, the Okanagan Symphony in 2018 under Rose Thomson, the Vancouver Symphony this October 28-29 under Karl Hirzer, and then Kamloops under Dina Gilbert. Sarah has been newly elected to SOCAN's Board of Directors! SOCAN (Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada) administers and protects the performing and reproduction rights of more than 160,000 songwriters, music publishers, composers, and visual artists. Hurray - many exciting shows to announce this week, and more next week!
Sarah will be performing a full set of Joni Mitchell's exquisite music, arranged for full orchestra, with both the Niagara and Regina Symphonies. These are the original orchestral arrangements from Joni's Travelogue (2002) and Both Sides Now (2000) recordings - just breathtaking!! In May, Sarah won her first Canadian Screen Award, alongside her co-composers Ari Posner, Amin Bhatia and songwriter Antonio Naranjo, for her work on the show "Detention Adventure"! Sarah has been nominated in the category of "Best Original Music - Fiction" for her composing work on the series Detention Adventure (HBO, CBC GEM)! This is her first CSA nomination. Sarah co-composed the score for Season 2 with esteemed composers Amin Bhatia and Ari Posner (Anne with an E, Flashpoint). WOW! Sarah's collaboration with Symphony Nova Scotia and composer Christos Hatzis has been nominated for a Juno Award, Canada's celebrated music prize, in the "Classical Album of the Year: Vocal or Choral" category!! Congratulations to all our wonderful colleagues on this project.
