Question I've seen the pillobos area to hunt is that only by draw or after the opening day can one just go there to hunt during season? Is it open 7 days a week or only open Wednesdays Saturdays and Sundays like the wildlife preserves are for duck. So cal BLM land I spent the better part of this year sitting at home rather than afield. Bad weather, work, family obligations, blah blah blah. I’ve been try to work the dog and learn how this works with a top notch k9 companion in the field. 1st trip tons of cold wind, saw small covey no shots landed 2nd trip, 1 hour in, weather drops from 62 to 42 and get rained on, cruised the roads with the boy and the heater on. I've been wanting to hunt quail for over a year and have only found a few small coveys in SoCal. So, I brought my shotgun on my (mostly) annual coues deer hunt in Arizona. After 5 days of seeing only a few small bucks, I decided to hunt quail on the last afternoon before I head home. A couple miles from camp, I run onto a covey crossing the road, so I pull over, load up, and try to cut them off in the brush before they get too far.
