Anyone else struggle with this? I write something and think it sounds good, and go back later and go "omg wth that's so lame..." ugh. I wish there was some mystic magical web site that you could paste in your lyrics and get a valid "how good it is" rating ..read more

How can I create 60s/70s inspired music

I love old music so much, the instrumentation, lyrics, energy, the whole lot. and would really love to create music that is some what inspired by this, but also has my own originality and doesn't sound like I'm DESPERATELY trying to make it sound old. my favourite styles of 60s/70s music are more rock and roll esque stuff, psychedelic rock, and some of the folk, and folk infused music. (tiny bit of the pop) I think some good examples of modern music that uses this sound really well are 'Honey' by drugdealer, and 'light and love' by the lemon twigs. (im sure there's lots more though ..read more

I don't know if the title is clear enough: I want to get into song writing and I already have a few song concepts but I don't know how much I should write, like how do you know/calculate how much line, verses, chorus, how much lines per verse etc. you have to write (when you don't already have a melody)? And in general how do you structure the song, or know how to structure it ..read more

Honesty in your writing

I feel really down and unmotivated at the moment because I have an obsession with being 100% honest in my music, and it kills all my desire, my motivation, my energy etc... The problem is that life is not linear and every time I write something and I live something in contradiction with this thing I feel obliged to specify it in my lyrics, to be precise in summarizing all my identity in one page, not to leave a certain "box" it's really complicated to experience and explain. Does anyone relate and/or have any advice on this ..read more

Hi everybody. Just wanted to share with you that me and some friends did another songwriting/recording project. We made, wrote, recorded, mixed and released an album in a day, or 18 hours to be precise. We invited people to come and participate during the day, and it was fantastic. Alot of people came and wanted to play something on the songs, or write som lyrics, or paint cover ideas. Alot of kids wanted to try. But most people just wanted to hang out. Of course it got a bit stressed at the end, and the mixing started at 11 at night, and had to do it in a couple of hours. Here's the album ..read more
