I already have two kids. My oldest will be about to start school when we go. Does anyone know how on base schooling (if any) is? Figuring that part out is something my wife and I are trying to think about. Any advice is appreciated! Second question… has anyone had experience getting a babysitter? I imagine spouse groups would have info on this as well. submitted by /u/Ted_Featherstien [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

17X Post Selection Bases

Got picked up as 17X for 24OTS03 I understand I'll be doing a TDY to OTS in route to Keesler for tech training. The post selection AFSC base list only has Keesler... so it is pointless to actually put bases you want to go to (up to 8) on the Post Selection worksheet? And how long are they making tech school now? A year ago it was like 8 months from other posts but alot has changed Thanks! submitted by /u/ohhroadrunner [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

UPT and Home Rental

This post is directed towards those who went to UPT while renting out their house back home. Though, any other feedback is welcome. Im a Guard guy selected at my home base. I’ll be leaving for OTS within the next 6 months (hopefully). Waiting for NGB approval right now. I want to keep my house (3% IR) and rent it out while I’m gone. I wanted feedback from anyone who has done it before. Did you use a PM company? How was the moving process? Did you move in with family or rent a place for a while when looking for a tenant before you left? I’ll be bringing my family with me and plan on living on ..read more

OTS

Hello, I am in college and want to enlist in the Air Force and become an officer. My situation is that I am currently in AFROTC, and I might get dropped ( could be disqualified for medical stuff that is out of my control ). My cadre told me they would not let me appeal the medical decision but would drop me. So, my second choice was to enlist and apply to do OTS before I started my senior year. Is it competitive to get OTS later on? Should I attempt to enlist before I am dropped? I would have a better chance of going through MEPS than DoDmerb. Many people told me that I wouldn't have a chance ..read more

For those who got a job around cybersecurity and went to enlisted then got into OTS to be an officer in the field. How was your journey? Did you finish your 4-6 years then went OTS? I already have a degree and want to go enlisted first to get some experience first. I then want to eventually go to OTS. Any advice or experiences would be helpful! submitted by /u/J_C_BY [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Beginning of my college career I failed around 11 classes due to just walking away from school dealing with depression and overall laziness at the time. I am making good grades now. Would the F’s on my transcript be a instant turn off to Guard/Reserve units even though im making mostly A’s and some B’s now? submitted by /u/No_University_7821 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Headed to OTS in the next few weeks and trying to mentally prepare and set expectations. I went through BMT in the late 2000s and trying to gauge the amount of suck I’ll have to deal with. My fellow prior service peeps, how does the “new” OTS compare to BMT? submitted by /u/Aftbear992 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

OTS & Med Shaving Waiver

Hey everyone! I’m specifically hoping someone who went through OTS with a shaving waiver recently can answer this question. For context my waiver won’t expire for another 5 years. I was also selected for 24OTS03. Did you go to OTS shaved or did you just bring a copy of your 469? The OTS guide is somewhat vague on what I should do. submitted by /u/chr1s_dc [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Meeting ROTC detachment commander

Hey, I’m a law student. The law school I attend is part of a larger state university which has an Air Force ROTC program. I’m applying for the OYCP (One Year College Program). I will meet with the detachment commander in 3ish weeks and just want to know what to expect, I know he pretty much gatekeeps my admission into the Air Force JAG program. Should I wear a suit? How formal are the interviews? I mainly just want to know what to expect and what he is looking for in a prospective AirForce Officer. Thanks. submitted by /u/RexFibber [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
